Roof Rack on my new(used) CRV... for my 12ft cartopper

Hello guys and gals,

Question about roof rack capacity.

I used to drive a 2rd Accord and I had one of those hook-on roof racks with an added piece of wood on it to make it wide enough to fit my 12ft cartopper.

Well, after a few years of having the wrong vehicule for an outdoorsman I've just bought myself a CRV... same mileage same years and still a Honda :D

My only worry is that the roof rack(which I picked this CRV over others for) says it's rated for 75lbs! I know that my boat is over a hundred... not much over but definately over. What do you guys think? I plan on making myself a custom roof rack out of aluminum square tubing so it's not the rack I'm worried about... it's the roof!

Any opinion is appreciated... but please note that a trailer is not an option as I live in a hi-rise and store my boat on a friends fence.

Here is a pic of my boat on my Accord... for those who want a laugh :P

Thanks a bunch,

UF

If it's a Thule system you were using on the Accord, it may be easier to just buy the necessary pieces to use it on your CRV... no need to buy a whole new roof rack.
