Lac Mcgregor
My first post here on Fish-Hawk...Hey guys...I was wondering if any of you have ever fished lake Mcgregor on the quebec side. I've got a cottage close by and me and a couple buddies are going to make a little weekend trip there soon. I've heard that the lake has monster bass and hold tourneys every year but I could find any info anywhere.

yes mcgrregor do have huge bass...huge pike, huge lakers...
its a butifull lake...we are supose to go do a little kayak outhing down there soon..i can t wait.
there is not mutch report about that lake on this site.
mabe will see you somwhere on the water..

Hi Tip up (2?)
I have fished McGregor in the past. It is as Joco mentioned a beautiful lake. In places it feels very remote. When you leave the boat launch at the north end of the lake you head right through a narrow section on the right. Across you will see three huge house, one is a log home. In front of these houses is good for lakers. I troll silver spoons (Toronto Wobbler, mooseluck ) tipped with a salted minnow and have had good luck there!
I am by no means a bass guy but have had little trouble catching
smallmouths at this end of the lake. There are tons of rocky points that all hold smallies. The lake about half way is split by another sections of narrows. Watch out here with your boat as it is very shallow. This area I think would be good place to try for pike. The south end of the lake contains lots of weed beds and is good for Largemouth. Again I am not a real bass guy and dont have alot of patience for fishing heavy slop. If you like that, this end of the lake will be excellent.
Finally, I have heard rumors of Musky in Mcgregor but do not know anyone who has caught one.
What lake is your buddies cottage on? I am trying to find out about any boat launches on Grand lake (nearby) and particularily Donaldson Lake (fairly close)

...and did catch some in those. 
Never had a chance to fish Mcgregor while i was sponsored by everyone as a big fishing pro.....lotta big pro's around....maybe one of them will help ya out. Good luck out there.....looking forward to some reports and don't forget....we like pic's

yup so i think its a go. We're gonna head out hopefully saturday morning in search of some northern pike and some large or small mouth bass. I'm glad to hear that other have heard about some huge fish in mcgregor...gives me alot more confidence goin in there. My lake is called lac clair its nothing special really just a place to practice some smallmouth fishing and there is trout fishing there but too boring for me to even try. The biggest i've pulled from my lake is about 3.5 lbs. I've fished Lac St. Pierre a bunch of times too. Some nice pike and bass in that lake. So if all goes to plan i'll have pictures of some fish for everyone and i'll let you all know how she goes.

I got everythig out of Mc Greggor lake....big pike both big large and small mouth bass and lakers....Muskys are in Twin lakes about 15 km away and
in
Donaldson lake wich is connected to Twin Lake...Gilmor lake as Muskys also....A friend of Mine caught a Nice Tiger Musky a few years a go in Twin Lake.
Twin lake is close to public now...back in the mid 80' there was some verry big muskys in Donaldson lake I saw one that was over 50 inches for sure!
You have to pay now to get on Mc Greggor lake...15$ per day....but I heard that some days in the week you can go for free. I'm not sure if you have to have your boat washed like many other lakes on the Quebec side these days.

I was confused too. Seems "Tip-up" has already been taken, but "tip up" has not. I believe this is the first time since Fish-Hawk was conceived that this has happened.
Hey "tip up" (2), any chance you'd like to change or modify your nickname slightly just to avoid confusion. There really is only one "Tip-up".

I think it's changed...lol let me know if i've taken someones again. Thats all I could think of right now. Thanks to big bass 444 for letting me know about this 15 dollar launch fee...and providing some pics of some beauties. I'm thinkin twice about going now...because I know that theres plenty other lakes around that dont charge and hold some nice size fish aswell.

The lake definitely contains some quality bass, both largemouth and smallmouth. I was more successful at finding the largemouth, however managed to get a few quality smallies.
There is definitely a launch fee ($15) along with a questionnaire that some cottage association deems necessary to have filled out. At least that's the way it was last year. There is a nice concrete launch, unfortunately with no dock, and flanked on one side by private property and on the other by rocks. If you have a fiberglass boat, someone is going to have to get wet. There is also an old wooden sign that states there is a horsepower restriction, but one that is probably not enforced since many cottage owners have some high horsepower engines tied up to their docks.
The $15 fee, questionnaire, and having someone get wet just to launch my boat, not to mention the militant style of the cottage association, were too much for me. I stopped going there, just wasn't worth it to me. Too bad, because it is a very nice lake filled with quality bass. If you're willing to put up with the nonsense, it can be a very good lake. Questionnaire????
Wolfman, unfortunately my memory is very poor, once I realized that the questionnaire was one put out by the local cottage association and NOT the town of Vals Des Monts, I stopped writing, therefore I never read the whole thing. They asked for name, address, and if I remember correctly Hull Indentification Number, and plate number for my truck, those type of questions got my back up right away. I work for a police agency and in my opinion some of the questions asked were clearly none of their (Cottage Association) business. Some of the associations on both sides of the Ottawa River are acting like the have policing powers, which they clearly do not.Wolfman! wrote:Hi Claudio,

The access road and boat launch appear to be open to the public, if they are private facilities they should be clearly marked and access should be restricted, which it has never been, at least not the number of times I've been there.
I would be curious to see if anyone has been to the launch this year, and if this questionnaire and the launch fee are still in effect. I was there at the beginning of bass season last year and have never returned since.
