This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Post by Troller »

Hi guys,
For charging my trolling motor battery(it is dual deep cycle and cranking)For battery life, am I best to recharge the battery after every use or should I wait until it runs down more.+
FYI- this battery is not my main battery in my boat it is strictly for the trolling motor.
Daver
Good fishing!!

Hopefully you will get an actual EXPERT to answer you, but based on quite a few years of experience and what I have been told:

The marine deep cycle batteries are designed to be drained and recharged hundreds of times. You should always top them back up when you come ashore after a day of battery use. Why go out for a new day with a 70% battery?????

I usually get five to six years of heavy use out of a marine battery, and I always re-charge them when I come ashore, whether they are down 5 percent or 95 percent.

Free advice, worth what you paid for it......

batteries now adays, are a bit hard to understand, with so many types of batteries. Each type has a preferred way of charging it. Take you car battery for instance, Its not much different than a trolling battery, and every time you start your car it recharges. They usta say that recharging a little bit at a time tends to make the battery have a memory, and it will go dead faster. I prefer to trickel charge mine at 2amps. I may put the charger on 10amps for a few hours, but then over night turn it back to 2amps. Im no expert by any means but ide like to know myself what the best way to charge a battery is. If i just put my charger on 10amps and it shows full charge after a few hours. i notice that my battery goes dead alot faster than if i trickel charge it.
