So I paid a visit to one of my favorite shore spots this afternoon, only to have this waiting for me...
The picture doesn't do it justice, but it was about 6 inches across. I've seen them before but not nearly as big.
Anyone know the name of the species or if its venom is toxic to humans??

Looks like a dock spider to me. They get big and hairy like that.

				Hey Wolfman,
I live on the water and find some pretty big, hairy and creepy spiders here too! Before I moved up here I had know idea spiders grew that big in Ontario. You wouldn't want to wake up in the middle of the night with that crawling acrossed you!

I found this link and I would guess that it's your spider.

Apparently these things bite and kill good sized minnows and if you ever got bitten by one it would be an experience that you would probably never forget. I saw one under the toilet seat in the old outhouse at the cottage one time and it went down the hole, well lets just say I had to modify my technique for using the outhouse after that to keep any vulnerable/sensitive areas safe and it was'nt easy, I'll say no more
