Nice topic........

I don't think that you can dispute the fact that it has gotten warmer. In fact I think this is probably the hottest summer I can remember, however I don't think it is due to global warming. I have read several essays by many scientiest that are authorities on the subject of global warming, and a lot of it is nonsense. There's data that shows that the average temperature on earth has increased by a mere 0.9°F in the past century. And this was in the period prior to the end of WWII where there was a complete absence of greenhouse gases. Many of the holes in the ozone layer are untrue, even NASA and the US government have admitted this. The original prediction was a 4-9°F rise in average earth temperature. Recent trends have shown that the earth's temperature is actually going down, albeit by a very slow trend. The eco "protectors" are drumming up a lot of fright with the predictions that have been made, but history shows they are, for the most part wrong. Many politicians, especially in the US build there platfoms on eco responsibility with many false promises. Check out an essay by (fmr) Forbes Magazine writter Ronald Bailey. I know it's dated (ca. 1993), but being a man of science I can't refute the numbers.

Still I believe the world has become a cess-pool of garbage. We need to rethink our excesses; like driving a couple blocks to the store in our SUV's and Full Size Pickups for a loaf of bread. We've all done it....

Keep it reel,

GRR

The thing I like most about all this global warming is everyone keeps disregarding the scientific proof that our planet does this every few 1000 years. Records show that the temp the earth is at right now occured a long time ago and a long time before that....you see where this is going. How can we say that this is a new problem when we have gone through how many ice ages and warming periods. Our lakes, rivers, oceans etc all came from melting glaciers. In the journal of science from last year a scientist with Boston U stated that these trends are needed for our planet to exsist the way it does. Now we have all these people harping about how we have destroyed our planet but they do not see that this is a cycle....here is my little disclaimer about this being my opinion and in no way reflects any other person on this site. 8)

It's a good old Vicious circle.

Hopefully my Mr.Heater still works!!!!!!! Or it will be cold in my Fish Trap

I've said this before in a post months ago -- I think global warming will lengthen the growing period for bass -- bigger bass!! (yay!)

However, destabilized and unpredictable weather patterns might make it more dangerous to be outside. (boo hiss!)

On the other hand, the ecosystem is so freaking complicated who the hell knows what will happen!!!

As to why global warming is happening....I don't dare offer an opinion. There hasn't been a time out for a while and it's itching to happen

Ah Yak don't send us to a corner for being bad please...I promise not to take it to far

Thank yo everyone for posting your thoughts . I never even thought of cycle but do you think it will effect in the next few years

I don't think that it will change that much in the next 100 years. But I am not a scientist.

From everything I remember from my high school and university natural history classes I'd have to agree with almonte. I think the only difference now is
1) we are around to notice the changes (no longer cave men hunting wollies)
2) we have probably speed things up by clear cutting forests and burning down jungles ect.

Don't get me wrong....I'm not one to pull the plug :)

Dartee actually expressed my opinion better than I could have. I agree with him.

Were those fightin' words?

Hey Dudes, caught the head climatologist for NASA on CNN a couple weeks back and he stated that the temperature of the earth has risen .7C which is fact, over the last one hundred years of which 55% took place prior to 1940 when we weren't even near the contributing factor we have become.
Then he dropped the BOMB  and stated that the earths temperature has fluctuated as much as 27c   over the last 180,000 years. They know this from core smples taken on Greenlands ice fields.

Sounds like I have always said...at times we really have no idea what the hell is going on...but the bass's is getting bigger :D :D and that is all that counts.

It is also tough to judge the world climate from what happens in your own back yard.

BIG JIM... not looking for a blanket right now.

It's normal to subjectively make your decisions on this topic based on what you know and what you live. Common sense  tells you that...it's real or it is fake. But, that's not the way science works. There are many forums that discuss this issue. This dude talks about it all the time. He looks at the science of weather, interesting reading.
