Algonquin Park

Morning,

Being a long time resident of Ottawa and never having been to Algonquin park I decided that this September I must finally check it out. Now, fishing in the park is obviously at its peak in the spring, however, has anyone traversed the park in search of trout in September that would be willing to share their experience? I am going with three others for 3 nights and we are all pretty avid ‘canoers’ and are experienced enough and in shape enough to portage, etc.

I can talk with you via a PM if that is preferred. I will be sure to report in my findings either way.

Now, I have come to learn no information on FH is released without a little convincing...thus, check out the sturgeon a fried caught at my cottage recently.

I've done interior camping/fishing with some success in the past in Algonquin. Best trip had us go in through Brent (Cedar Lake) on the East side of the park. We then canoe'd, portaged over to Carl Wilson Lake thru the Northern route (less hills to climb). Some of the small lakes had great bass fishing in them and Carl Wilson produced Trout (great addition to breakfast). We knew we were in for some Trout when we got one of the camp sites on Carl Wilson Spring fishermen had left cut and stacked wood for the fire and we could see some of the remains in the shallow water. It's a long day canoe from Brent to Carl Wilson but manageable (check on water levels). Longest portage was approx 1 km. One trick is to get one of the operators of the store at the Campground to run you up to the Northern part of Cedar Lake in his tinny so you don't have to slog your way up the big water. Hope this helps. Let me know if you want any more details. The drive in from the highway took some time over pretty rough road but managed it with a Mazda 323 with a canoe on top.
