Night on the Mississippi River...Almonte

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Night on the Mississippi River...Almonte

Post by almontefisher »

So we made it out for a spur of the moment fish yesterday on the Miss River in Almonte @ Bay Hill if you know this area well. We started off at 6:30pm after convincing the wives to let us get out for the evening...We had a great night with many small rockbass caught and 4 walleye and some suprises...This is the biggest walleye caught last night...Image

And this is the suprise which I caught three of all night...Image

Now a question for everyone....Is this a whitefish??

fallfish grow up to 18 inches. essentially they are big minnows.
I've seem them in the Gouin Reservoir and most recently in the Rideau River.

You can see the more here...http://www.thejump.net/id/fallfish.htm

Definitely a fall fish. Where I am going this weekend there are tonnes of them and usually I catch 20 or 30 in just a couple hours. Gord if you want some let me know.

I'm not sure what their preferred habitat is but they are common to this area. I have only ever caught them in moving water that is fairly shallow (2'-3' max).

No joke.....

Man, I pull those things out all the time on the Mississippi especially around Blakeney with the flyrod. I pulled one out the other day in Almonte that must have been 2 pounds...no joke this thing was huge!
Stinky little buggers too.
