Headed quinte way this weekend

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Headed quinte way this weekend

Post by Andy_L »

Good morning guys

1st time poster here so please be gentle :)

This weekend (27th 28th) will be our first walleye visit to the Quinte area and i was hoping some of you might be kind enough to offer some advice.

The weather forecast isn't looking that great but then thats probably better for the fishing :)

Any information and advice you might be willing to share would be greatly appreciated as this is somewhere totally new for us.

Thanks in advance and here's hoping everyone has good catches :)

Quinte Fishing

Post by Seaweed »

Welcome to Fish-Hawk.net :)

You will find by searching using the Search feature just above you will find a treasure trove of information related to fishing the Bay of Quinte.

Do come back and share your story with us on how you did there and what worked for you.

Over time you will find that members will warm up and share opening with you about what works for them ... but people who come here in search of the best techniques for whatever type of fishing.... well they will probably get very little input.

That's ok

Welcome to the board Andy, we just got back from Quinte and like you we had never had the Quinte experience until last year and now we are hooked! You definitely need decent electronics there as you should be searching for baitballs and archs showing fish. From there you need to determine what depth they are feeding at and then you need to find a pattern and colours of cranks that work.

We have learned alot over the last year and most of that knowledge has come from Eye-Tracker. If you ever get the chance, book him for a charter and you will learn more in a day than you probably would over a year or more. I know he is pretty much booked up but you could probably shoot him a pm and he might give you some tips.

Good luck and we will be out on Sunday.

Welcome aboard Andy-L, Hope you have a great time and luck down on the Bof Q this weekend. I will also be there with a group looking to put a few of those golden eyes in the boat. If you see a 16 foot Princecraft with a fish-hawk sticker on the back that will be me. I was able to fish out at the Bof Q last fall and we did have some sucsses but the weather can get pretty nasty at times so make sure you dress for it. I will post back to let you know how we do and I hope to read about you guys catching one of those monsters that are there.

Welcome aboard Andy - Excellent advice in some of the previous posts. BOQ is a beautiful place to fish, but is big and different depending on time of year. I have been fishing it for the past several years (usually Spring & Fall)and the best advice I can give is - don't be discouraged, learn from this board and personal experience from every trip. Good luck.

Hello Andy,

For your first trip on Quinte keep it simple and try to get familiar with the body of water. Trolling cranks for suspended walleye takes a little practice and patience to prevent tangles and produce fish. In-line planer boards excel on the clear waters and also increase the odds in your favor with the number of boats that are going to be out this weekend.

Deep diving cranks Like Manns Stretch 20+ and the Rapala Deep Tail Dancer 25-30 feet down (200 feet of line out for most common deep diving crank-baits) should be a good starting program. For colours try natural colours like silver and golds on sunny days. On overcast days the bright painted baits like firetiger and chartreuse are an excellent choice.

Remember it is fishing, so go out and have fun and you never know when the next walleye on Quinte may be your personal best.

We might head up there this sunday for our first time as well (we are chicken so wemay stay closer to shore and bass fish). The 30km winds they are calling for on sunday make me nervous.

where is everyone launching out of?
it would be cool to see a few people from the board. i'll let you know what boat we'll be in when we decide (my buddies or mine).
