This is a video I took off of You tube. It is a 55 inch Musky caught up in the Lake Of The Woods Area. It is a very nice Musky!

My only issue is with how it was handled. I caught a good size musky on Rice lake this year. In my case, I was very careful in how I handled it and kept the thing in the water the entire time I was De-hooking it. I only removed it from the water for a few really quick pics!

Even after all of that, it seriously took me 20 minutes to revive the girl in the water there after! With this in mind, I put the question out there for the more seasoned Musky hunters on the site: What are the chances that the musky in this video actually survived?

From having it pinned down on the floor of the boat with a pair of size 11's, to being wrastled! lol Then held up for what seems like forever to take pics of....I just dont even know why they even bothered trying to put it back!

In any event, it was (and I stress was) a really nice fish!

great fish for sher.

put the fish down in the botom off the boat a cople time....not to good for the fish.

taking at least 3 min if not more out off water,extremely not good for the fish.

not net or cradell .no good.

but i do have to say nice fish.

How long did it take you to bring your Muskie in?? Did it give you a good fight?? How big was it??

20min for revival seems to be a long time....

The 54" skie I caught this fall only took 5min before she was headin' south...

It took me about 10 minutes to get it in. She was really scrappy. Jumped in the air about three times and ran out easily 150 feet of line.

She was a really tired girl. I didnt really have the best tackle for hauling in a fish that big on that particular day.

In any event, it was the rush of a lifetime and you only need ask those that know me, I have been an avid musky man ever since! I find fishing for everything esle ( with the exception of salmon)somewhat boring since.

Anyways, I still didnt kick the hell of the fish the way these dudes in this clip did! lol

In any event...that was a nice ski you caught and congrats for reviving her....as far as the video goes, can't really comment cuz we really don't know real time....I agree it wasn't handled very well but maybe they weren't expecting to catch a skie as well...

I guess the most important thing to stress to other Muskie hunters is to make sure you have the CORRECT gear to fish for this species....

we can see some off the time.....there a timer under the video...we see at least more then 2 min and the video stop..so at least 3 min if not more...that is a longgg time.

and i gue there not fishing for musky...no net no craddel..

Definitely not the way to handle a muskie no mater the size.

First mistake was waiting a minute as the fish revives to land it, should of been done right away and in the water. Then handed over for a picture. No more then a few seconds out of water.

As for chances of survival, well I can tell you it's 100% better then if that fish was taken home but probably 10 times less then a properly handled muskie.

Another bad thing I saw at the end was the way he was moving the fish back wards, that's not good as he was rushing water into the fish gills backward and that can drown it. One should just hold the tail and try to head the fish into current if possible and if any movements desired it should be to move the tail from left to right like in it's natural state. This helps the fish get kick started.

you can do a replica off it.......that will look the same even better and still look great in 25 years ..not some real stuff all crack up.

so dont need to kill it a nice replica look as a live one do.

but i am not here to say what is good or not.

I firmly believe the perps in the video are not members here. The video would serve as a great tool for folks going to Chef school or at a Muskie 'organization'(s)....how not to video taught/provided by a self proclaimed elitest....hmmmm....which career would put the youngins through school withough ruining their fragile little minds and giving them night terrors....pass the fish one more time please!
