Hey guys and gals.

I managed to lose my electric motor from my 19.5' Legend boat this fall.
Don't ash how it got to the bottom of the Ottawa River. Was no good anyway. The requriements are:

1) 80 lb thrust.
2) EASILY raised and lowered (big problem with the lost MINN KOTA)
3) can be easily removed from the boat for skiing or cruising
4) comes with a responsive foot control.

Any advice would be appreciated

Id go Minn Kota Maxxum or Maxxum Pro

The pros got the lift assist... makes it quite easy to stow on bow.. But the normal Maxxum is simple as well if u can lift..

Legends are aluminum so Id go no smaller then 42' shaft not sure if you'd need a 52"shaft...

As far as I know, any new MinnKota bow mount motor has a matching quick release mount.

Cable controlled motors such as the Maxxum will probably be the most responsive and 80 lb thrust models are 24V. I have the 80lb model with Universal Sonar on a 20' bass boat and have yet to run into a circumstance where it is not enough power.

The Terrova is electronically controlled but it's pedal looks like it has the heel-to-toe steering like a cable drive pedal. No idea how well it works but I am guessing it would be more responsive and comfortable than the side-to-side steering on the PowerDrive models.

Look at the MotorGuide brands. I have a wireless 55lb thrust on my 18ft legend. The controls are completly wireless. very easy to take on and off the boat. I like having the option to control the boat from anywhere in it. Dont over look the motorguide

i agree with spence the minn kota maxium pro is a good unit if you are looking for qiuck response for verticle jig fishing in current i havn't found a better unit.

I bought a Motorguide 82 LB. digital this year and I love it. I always had minn kota's on all my other boats but this new motorguide is amazing. I have the gator mount on mine and it takes about 30 seconds to take off if you don't have the pedal screwed down. It is a little heavy but I am upgradeing to the new gator mount this year which is supposed to be easier. If you want to know a good place to check out for prices or detail PM me.

I have a MinnKota Maxxum Pro on my Princecraft. It's a 80lbs thrust with 52" shaft. It has lift assist shock which makes it easy to lift & lower.
It's a good strong motor. I would however go with a 60" shaft next time for a deep aluminum boat on windy days and maybe even the 101lb thrust. I did run the batteries out a couple times last summer in very windy conditions.

Spence and luke say it all, Minn Kota or nothing. I had nothing but problems with motorguide.

I use the Minn Kota as well. I really like the foot controls that you can get with it and the precision that I can work the speed.

We have a lot of tricky spots around the edges of our lake and I can get right in where I want to go.
