Has anyone been to Farren Lake near Maberly this ice season that could comment on ice conditions :?:

I am looking for access to the lake and the folks at Cobblestones are away until April 1, 2008. I understand from them that they have some really good spots near the lodge come spring time :!:

Also, if anyone has infor on depth/contour charts for the lake I would be greatly interested on where and how to get these

Only a couple weeks left on the hard top and I am hungry fro some splake. :P

Regards,
Rich

Let me know if this link works for you. It's a state of the Lake Report. There is a map in the report. http://rvca.ca/programs/wwatch/state_la ... Farren.pdf

Prairieboy-

I have never been on Farren lake although I have also been looking at it as a possibility. I drove around it about two weeks ago and could not see how I could get to the area I wanted to try with out snowshoeing about a mile. There was a lot of snow!!! Without a snow machine it would be a hike ;-)

You can get on the west end of the lake fairly easily from the Boilingbroke Rd. (County Rd 36) but the spots I picked to fish from the depth map were at the east end of the lake. There appears to be a cottage road plowed in from Hanna Rd. but I was not sure if it went to the lake etc.

The map of Farren is included in one of the Fishing Map Books for Eastern Ont. (It is available from the Ottawa Public Library Carling wood Branch.)

Last Sat. I fished a lake a few KM from Farren and was up to my knees in snow with about 6-12 in. of slush under it depending on the drifts.

If we get some mild weather in March followed by a good freeze I think it would be worth a trip. I definitely will give it a try with my canoe when the ice is out.

Has anyone out there fished Farren in the last year or two?

Thanks guys,

The charts are what I was looking for.

The slush is a bit much right now especially pulling my clam and gear out there. I know the lake has some springs too so I wanted to know if anyone had any experience on the lake in the winter.

One good thaw with some rain and then -20 for a week and we'll be fishing until mid-march. Not likely but here's to fishful thinking :)

We stayed at the cobblestone 2 years ago for 4 days and fished Farren for 2 of them without great success for splake ,, one splake about 10" was all we had to show.. We fished the east side by the big Island and the west side however there were lots of jumbo perch iced which made for a great shore lunch...........
