jiffy model 30 ice auger - blade protector strap

Hi Everyone :

I just purchased a jiffy model 30 on sale at Canadian Tire. When I first opened the box, I didn't find an owner's manual or the blade protector strap. I then noticed on the box that it said "Display", so Canadian Tire used the one I bought for display and I am assuming that they didn't put the owner's manual and the blade protector back in the case.

I managed to find the owner's manual online. I could make a blade protector substitute, but does anyone have any suggestions ? Is the blade protector strap not included in the box for all models ?

I bought the machine from a Canadian Tire that is 100 Kms away, so that is why I am on the "blade protector strap substitute" adventure.

Get yourself a short 1ft bungi cord. Tie some knots on the cord about 2 inches from eachother. The protector strap from jiffy is basically a rubber cord with round balls every 2 inches. these balls attach to the auger blade protector sides. This might even be a better solution to the stock strap. As you could even permanently attach the bungi to one side of the protector. I have almost lost mine because as you know it comes completly off the protector.

Jiffy also sells a snap type protector for around $50 I think? Not sure how it works?

I did the same as last cast. tie wrapped one end of the bungee cord and a knot at the other end and I haven't swore at that strap ever since.

If there is closer Canadian Tire I would take it back to them and tell them what's up. They're a big chain and generally don't want to pee pee ppl off....and the fact that your box says display on it should help your story. Or.....build your own....as stated by 1lastcast and Wallyboss, it's not to much work.

I'd email the particular store and ask them to send you one. As said, they typically don't like to pizz anyone off and it's their mistake after all... did ya get the huge Jiffy decal that's supposed to be in the box? It'll turn any normal pickup into a redneck wagon in one easy step

The decal was in the box ! Very good point. This suggests that everything was returned to the display box by CA personnel(or perhaps the word "display" on the box meant that the box was on display and not the jiffy drill itself - meaning that the box was never opened) and that the manufacturer did not include the manual or the strap in the box. Maybe that is why the units went on sale.
