Hockey vs fishing analogy fer Poll

Post by creeky »

Recently I got some emails talking about limiting the numbers for perch and blue gills etc. Now it make me wonder ... we all love to play hockey and usually wehn de hockey rink is full booked, we build another one.
so why is it when we love to fish, we don't improve spawnin' habitat or pay someone to stock da little fingerlings, or do something anything proactive ... instead the mnr just shuts down or restricks fishin or bait or invents new rules or ...
Kind of like if we run out of places to play hockey they ban hockey sticks or close down the rink. seems crazee to me.
So i'm holdin a completely biased poll  to see if anyone crazze like me :D

Unfortunately

Its a little easier to rebuild a rink. Some good wood and a quality hose can fix that. Unfortunately its a little harder too wait years for a fish species to replenish itself.
Its simple, they restrict limits because in reality we dont need an unlimited amount of perch or bluegill to take home.
I'm for it, we don't need 50 perch or bluegill each!!! Honestly

I know what you mean about MNR not being there when needed most. I've witnessed it way too many times. But its simply lack of funding for more of these Smokey the fire bears!!

So many lakes, So many regs, So few people to enforce it!!

In reality, its just alot harder to turn around a species population due to predators, climate, pressure of population, pollution, harsh environment conditions, invasion of habitat, lack of vegetation, & abuse of regulations.

Easier said then done my friend!!

Regards

50 perch,,50 bluegill...

I think they should drop the limit from 6 pike to maybe 2 or3.....

I mean two guys out fishing are allowed to bring home 12 pike,, sounds
like alot to me

Is there really any damage being done from people overfishing panfish though...........because as usual both sides are in their opposing camps and one says there is , the other side sais there is not and finding out the actual truth is near impossible.
I hear more and more lately how people think the MNR has been infilltrated by people who really dont like hunting and fishing and are gung ho for banning and restricting. I have to say I am a bit suspicious with things that have happened lately

Probably true... helps explain why there's so few deer tags each year and when i drive home I see 10 deer minimum... sometimes 30-40! But yeah, makes sense... cramming the deer season into 1-2 weeks... pathetic job by the MNR on that one... my neighbours and I have probably hit more deer with our cars than any hunters around here. 3 people killed in deer collision in my area... but still no need to up the tags or increase the season...

I think you should have.... kick some gov't butt in this poll because they are the ones underfunding the MNR. I think 3\4 of the people on this site would like to work for the Ministry but who's gonna pay ya????

Hmmm, I'm not quite sure I understand the question or if there is possibly another answer that could be provided which is not in the Poll.

How to increase fishing opportunity?
- should we kick mnr butt, lazy buggers - I wouldn't say this is an accurate statement. It all really comes down to "funding" and what they are able and not able to do. Kicking their butt isn't going to increase Fishing Opportunities, getting them more funding so that they can do their jobs effectively could help for sure.

- should we pay to help streamside habitat restoration - No, I think we pay enough taxes, I don't need any more of them, but what we can do is contribute to the environment ourselves by practising good habits as it relates to waters and shorelines.

- should we do more stocking - I suppose this could work based purely on the mathematics of it. More fish, more catching, more opportunity. I'm on the fence with this one.

- should we pour nuther beer and forget about it - I'm always up for another beer, but I don't think it would be right for us to forget about it. I suppose we all have a part to play, no matter how tiny it might be, and keeping our waterways and shorelines clean is a step in the right direction. Cheers, gotta hit the hay, tired now. I'll save my vote and sleep on it.

Lots of volunteers in many outdoors/fishing clubs do just that (habitat improvement and stockingand pouring another one but no butt kicking)
