Rideau River fishing from shore

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Rideau River fishing from shore

Post by gerrymackenzie »

Hi folks, wondering if there is any good fishing from shore along the Rideau? Me and a friend are going tomorrow and we don't have a boat. We were told about the marina in Kars? and along some bridge???
Any other good places? Mostly looking for bass. We have a car and we aren't afraid to travel to get some good fishing done.
Thanks
Gerry

I was talking to my friend and he has volunteered to teach me how to fish for walleye and pike...so I guess the trip is back on. Any suggestions?

Black Rapids lockstation and Long Island Locks.......both spots are easily accessible and offer shore fishing opportunitys. :)

..or.....you can go to Constance Lake and rent a boat. Lot's o' pike in that lake!

Some great place's to go shore fishing are Long Island Locks, Kars and The Mill in Manotick . All are producing walleye and pike (great size)

Try Watsons mill in Manotick, or near the Manotick Public school, park your car there and walk down to the river through the foot path. Park a lawn chair and fish.

Or try Long Island Locks outside of Manotick.

If you don't get any bites there, head out to the Kars public boat launch and fish from that. Or you can head back to the city at Blacks Rapids, and if nothing there, Hog's back, and if nothing there Dows lake, and on and on until you hit the Ottawa.

Or you can go far, up to Burritts Rapids and Merrickville, the fishing is excellent in Burritts Rapids.

Really you can go all the way up that river until it becomes Big Rideau lake. lol

It's a huge river, you can fish in any amount of spots. There is plenty of shore access.

I live right near the river, haven't fished it for years though due to my health. Might try to walk down and fish there this week, but probably won't feel well enough.

Good luck!

You can head out to Carlton Place and fish at the dam area. There are some pools and pockets that hold eyes, smallies and large mouth. There are 2 dams near each other in carlton place.

There area some areas rite in ottawa right off island park exit off the 417 you can go to. The place is called bates island there area good fishing there too for bass. I went the other day for fun seen a guy catch a brown there too.

Good luck have fun
