Took the family out to Constance Lake in Kanata today.
Rented a small boat and 4hp for $35 for 2 hrs.
We went all the way to the far side of the lake and started casting mini green spinners.
The kids came up with 3 small pike each, I got 2 and lost the big one of the day.
Had a great time cought fish IN SEASON.
Bring a credit card or $100 cash for the deposit for the boat.
There is small restraunt to grab a bite too.

I as well was on that lake on Sunday with a buddy of mine and we were trolling down the middle at quicker pace then I thought needed(6km) and we were banging pike all over the place, about a dozen each our biggest was 4.5lbs, but thats not even the best part.....
I caught a small less then a pound pike with a ripplen red fin and when it was about half way in the boat a 4lber attacked the "bait" fish and would not let go (if someone could explain that?? primal instinct?) We actually missed the first time with the net, kinda side swiped him and still he would not let go of the smaller one.
We took a cell camera photo that did not turn out that well but it was very neat to see, I have only seen that on the WFN.
Another story to add to my list of crazy events on the water.

30 years ago it was just as fun on Constance.. the fish were a bit bigger, we had basic equipment, and sometimes a little less. In the fall we used to be able to hunt ducks.....
Those days are all over...

Jasonb, currently you do not need a card to rent a boat, however, some operators are asking that you have one. Here is the answer to a FAQ on the boaters exam web-site
http://www.boaterexam.com/canada/faq_rules-en.aspx
-- -- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Q. What if I rent a powerboat or PWC?
A. Currently, a Pleasure Craft Operator Card is not required in order to operate a rented watercraft. Instead, it is sufficient for a renter to complete a rental safety checklist. Take note however that some companies have made it their corporate policy to require renters to have their Pleasure Craft Operator Card. Below is a sample copy of a rental safety checklist.

If you go to the link above, you can access the rental safety checklist.
