Opening day tactics

Just wondering what you guys use on opening day. I get a couple of dozen big sucker minnows and head for a bay on the north shore near a creek mouth. Rumor has it the post spawn fish are still in the area. I usually get my limit of good sized pike and the occasional 'eye. I gave up on the Izumi trick of using buzz baits in really shallow water for monster pike. All I ever seem to catch is hammer handles and pre spawn bass.

That's cuz Izumi tapes all his "new super-lure" shows at Knee Lake, Kesagami and such places where just about anything will catch scads of monster pike.

My favourite was watching him fish a walleye spawning creek at Knee Lake with a mini spinner-bait while showing what a "fantastic" lure it was.

Gimme a break!

I would say your plan sounds like a good one.
