Walleye help needed - up north trip

We will be leaving for Lady Evelyn on Friday, August 29th - and will be fishing her for 5 nights
We did okay last year, we went in during the middle of a major temperature change - from 18 degrees to 9 degrees overnight, and found we only managed to get a few Walleye (and small ones at that) at dawn and dusk fishing two main lake flats (drifting)
In general, on a northern lake - where would you look for walleye to be holding in early September, and what tackle/technique would you try?
Here’s a description of the lake from Ontario out of Doors
“Where we fished, features flats, eskers, flooded timber, sandbars, and weedbeds. It's a walleye factory and a structure-angler's heavenâ€
Last year all of our fish came on crawler harnesses or jigs tipped with worms/minnows
We are novice walleye fisherman, fairly experienced bass and pike fisherman (last year we caught lots of bass and pike)
Any help/tips/thoughts appreciated
