I am considering between White Lake or Clayton this weekend - looking for 'eyes and bass. I've been to White Lake once, no 'eyes and not much action. Haven't been to Clayton though...

Anyone recommend 1 over the other? Or should I try Mississippi Lake?

DUDE IF U WANT CONSISTANT EYE'S, goto mississippi... cuz they are impossible to find on white lake... i didn't find any on my 3 day trip to clayton, but i did find some nice pike and some decent bass... but for all around i'd goto Mississippi

Clayton has both Eyes and Bass (Large and Small). There's some big bass in Clayton and Taylor if you can find them. This time of year I'd concentrate in the deeper weeds and if the sun warms up go in shallow to try and find the floating shoreline areas. They hide under them.

White Lake is an excellent bass lake, but for walleye, I'd go to Mississippi.

If you do go to White Lake, though, you can catch 2 pound bass all day there quite easily, with bigger ones thrown in if you look for them. If you grab a map of the lake and go to places like Fish Creek, Sunset Bay, or Stewart's Island and work the weed beds, you'll get your fill of bass with some pike thrown in. There are lots of other places, but those are a few to start with. Flippin' docks works well on that lake as well, and working rocky areas in the southern end can produce some decent smallies.

Clayton is decent for bass as well, but I don't believe the walleye there can be counted on as a good fishery. Also, I believe you'll get more numbers for bass at White Lake rather than Clayton. White Lake is much bigger with many more options in regards to areas to fish. Throw a senko out and you can bring 'em in like panfish until you're bored...if that's possible.

For walleye though, definitely Mississippi...where you can get into some great largemouth and smallmouth action as well.

White Lake does have 'eye's but they are tuff to catch there. It's an excellent bass and pike lake.

Both Clayton and Mississippi have good Walleye and Bass fishing.

Yep, I have fished White Lake and Mississippi Lake for 40 years and for sure if your hunting for eyes go to the Miss.

I'm actualy hitting White Lake tomorrow for bass and pike obviously so if anyone is out there and see's a Procraft Bass boat (candy apple Red and Blue) come and say hi.

Hi Wrangler, You can try McCreary's Beach Resort on North Shore Drive. They have boats but I think they are expensive to rent. McColloughs Landing (beside McCreary's) might have them too. I am not sure.

clayton is a great LMB lake,I fish it with my canoe,(boats can't get into the inner bays)I got there this a.m. around 8;00,and they didn't disappoint,got a couple 3 lb'ers right off the bat,in the first swamp off of the launch,........but,once you start to get serious about gettin' into them, it is a very thick slop,with very little opening's,.you need to be totally weedless and then some,plus to get the bigun's,you gotta work hard,I bottomed out the canoe countless times,finally after many lesser fish and alot of aggressive boiler's,i got a nickel fish around 2;00p.m. in about 16-18" of water almost on land(berkley frog in real bull flavor) I actually had a couple large fish earlier in the day viciously attack this bait ,run around with it,but not swallow it,I was thumb spoolin' them line,but could see the bait,with the hook way out of the kill zone,too salty maybe??,not sure,but wasn't impressed with that,.....and the wind was howlin' all day,hard to stay put long,even in the cabbage patch i was gettin' pushed all over the place,tough day to fish bass,in a canoe ,but they at least were on the feed for awhile,did catch a couple smallies in the 2lb. range in open water doin' the crossover,..nice thing about clayton,when you get into serious LMB country,you are so shallow,that I never seem to run into any pike....have a fun wknd.
