I don't see a red dot on the gill cover, so wouldn't that rule out pumpkinseed? I also find pumpkinseed have more blue colour than bluegill. I can't tell if there's a black spot at the end of the dorsal fin, that would identify it as a bluegill. Breeding male bluegill may have more orange on them. Water clarity and colour may also affect the colour intensity of a fish.

Oddly enough I caught an orange sunfish last year also.

I think yours is a bluegill because I'm pretty sure mine's a pumpkinseed.

Here's a past post with pictures of both with their normal colours.

I used to remember catching a few of those on Silver Lake by the campground, and I always just called them a Sunfish. Of course, that was back when I was under 10, so I probably heard a few adults saying thats what they were.
And no, not an arctic char this time, but thanks for a valuable input Taylor.

Your sunfish is EXTREMELY ORANGE.......

I believe it may be a hybrid of different kinds of sunfishes......

It has bluegill traits but is very very orange.........Or it could just be a bluegill, that has very orange coloring to it............

I've never caught one like that..........they very in color, but that one is pretty cool looking...........

Most pumpkinseed I catch have markings on their fins when they are extended, they are little dots like they have on their body........

Bluegills dont usually have that.......Their fins are clear......but i could be wrong....

I'm no sunfish master....I'm the ROCK BASS master
