I am planning on trying a different technique this long weekend for Smallies in 25-35 feet of water. I have never used Tube Jigs for Small Mouth or the Drop Shotn technique.
Any pointers at all would be greatly appreciated. I am thinking 4' Tubes but no sure on colour or brand.

I've never tried using tubes on a drop shot rig but I'm sure it can be done. I usually use smaller hooks for a drop shot like Gamakatsu drop shot hooks or Owner Mosquito hooks size #1 or #2. Nose hooking a tube may be tough and a 4" tube may be a little heavy to get the right action. For drop shotting I usually use smaller minnow baits like Zoom Tiny Flukes, Jr. Flukes or gulp alive minnows. Another good choice is smaller finesse worms or stick baits like a 4" senko.

For the tubes, rig them up a 1/8-1/4 oz long shank tube head and fish them right on the bottom, dragging them slowly with little pops seems to work best for me.

you got me curious about tubes for drop shot bait... check out the link below. Looks like they are using a smaller finesse tube but mention that they also use bigger tubes with 2/0 and 3/0 hooks.

Any idea on how to hook the tube jig and manage to keep the tube on the hook without using a bullet style weight? The time I've used tubes its for crappie fishing with a very small bullet style weight.

I have heard of people using crazy glue...maybe try that????

The past couple of outings, I've used regular tube weights but found it dragged in weeds. I also tried the title shot jigs but had trouble hooking fish.

Still learning myself.

I have alot of success with those tiny little tubes..........So I imagine big ones will be good for big fish......

If you're talking about drop shotting just use a hook big enough to nose hook them like you would a minnow.

I have used a tube on the drop shot with some success. It certainly is something out of the ordinary.

As others have noted --- tubes are larger than finesse baits, worms and other traditional drop shot fare --- so be sure to use a wider gap hook if you plan to drop shot with a tube.

I have had limited success with dropshottin' tubes. I have nose hooked them with a 1/0 Gamakatsu D/S hook. I have also tried 1/0, 2/0 & 3/0 Gamakatsu EWG hooks as well. Most days I still prefer a 4 or 5 inch single-tail grub.
I also like smaller senko style baits hooked with a Gamakatsu EWG hook.

But lets face it, this is smallmouth stuff, not really largemouth fare.

Who said dropshottin' was only for finesse fishing anyway? Dropshottin' is a bait delivery system, no more.
