Hey all,
Thought it may be a fun post- What is your #1 experience or thing that ruined your day fishing?

Mine:

Concrete barrier vs. lower unit.

It must have melted through the ice (they put them on the river in winter to mark the 'safe' skating areas!! poor old johnson 1978 25hp...it started just fine after, so I said OK I'll use the electric as there was no apparent damage- except when I tried to put it in gear 2 hours later...

Can't wait to hear some more stories!

One of the first times out with my Tracker Deep-V 16 back in 2000, I tried to launch the boat by unhooking the boat from the trailer before launching it in the water. Bad idea! The trailer has rollers. I proceeded to back down the ramp and I just slightly touched the brakes, at which point the boat slide of the trailer, 5 feet short of the water. Needless to say, I simply marked up the lower unit and dented the transom a bit but everything was still functional. Unfortunately, the transducer and speedo were done. We still went fishing but it wasn't a good start to the day.

Other days, forgetting the boat keys at home and starting the day with a dead trolling motor battery. Had to pack up those days.

Just bought my first boat this year ( yesssss!!) She's not much to look at but she's mine.

The third time out ( I launch at Petrie Island ) I was taking a few of my buddies out for some afternoon fishing. Water level was high as it was May but I had yet to buy a depth/fish finder. I have been out in the water with other guys and thier boats and know the area a little bit but we still managed to cream the lower unit on a log. Paddle time back to the marina.

I'm glad I had 2 paddles in the boat.

It still cost me a bundle to fix my engine as I twisted the drive shaft and had the whole lower unit replaced.

My best day of fishing got ruined when i caught a 6.5 lbs largie last summer and noticed that I forgot to bring my camera, man was I ever pee pee off.

That is my story and I am sticking to it.

Wallyboss that sounds tragic. At least it wasn't costly ( only your pride)

Wallyboss. How about catching your personal best muskie at 51.5 inches and not having your camera in the boat. Been there. Done that.

Back several years ago , when my wife was 9 months pregnant .........
I decided to head out for a FULL day of fishing, and my wife Cathy says

Out we go and i begin casting this heavy red-devil out for pike, after about 15 minutes I went a little to far back with the lure and I hear this
ear peircing Scream .......Yikes !!!!!!!! seems like she got her foot a little to close the lure, I look back and the treble hook is deeply set in her left foot :hs :hs


Off to the hospital we go

MV- I was in the habit of doing the same as you. I would unhook before the boat was in the water, tie the bow line to the trailer and back it in. My boat was on carpet bunks, which was never a problem. A friend got a new (to him) boat and was uncomfortable backing it, so he asked me to help him learn the finer points of trailering and boating. We got to the ramp and business as usual... until I put the truck in reverse. The boat slid off the trailer (with rollers) and dropped right on the prop (near the top of the ramp), and bent a blade. There was a nice crowd at the ramp that and fortunately it was a smaller aluminum boat. Several laughing by-standers helped us carry/drag the boat to the water. Several others kindly told me they had see this happen before (one even admitted to know a person it had happened too). We put the boat in the water, started the motor for about 5 minutes, put it back on the trailer and went home. I paid to have the prop fixed (natuaraly). I haven't been on that boat since.

i drove five hours to a muskie spot only to find out there was every muskie fisherman and their brother there already fishing...

i guess it was part of a two day muskie tourney.

every deep weedline and trolling route was taken, and being pounded by "pro's".

was a long drive home.

Things that ruined my day of fishing, well i'll put all the blame on me for giving the EX-gf my cell phone number, as she ended up calling every 30mins fighting with me to come home every time i went out.... kinda hard to fish like that... i also was dumb enough to bring her with me knowing how much she complained... lol... i've made some up-grades... you guys all bought a new boat or new gear to help you with ur fishing... i just got a new partener instead of a complainer... lmao...

also caught some big fish with no camera...

First time fishing with a new partner. he takes me hunting for muskie and graciously allows me to use a spare rod and reel. The reel is a baitcaster. While in his driveway he shows me how to use it and we are off. We get the boat is the water and arrive at first hole. We are casting and I think I'm doing pretty good. I wind up to cast and forget to push in the button...as I bring it forward over my head the rod, reel and lure go into the drink and sink...

I'm still pee pee off at that.

He was very gracious and we spent the rest of the day trolling...didn't get anything but a small pike for 5 hours of trolling.

The reason she kept calling was because you kept answering

only answered cuz i knew if i didn't it'd be the dog-house for even longer once i got home... lol...
