can a musky cut 100 lbs fluoro carbon??

does anybody use this as leaders??

I think a Muskie could break through that, but it should offer pretty good protection................

I think you'd be safe with that but I'm not a Muskie expert, I've only caught 4 in my entire life......All of them within 30-40 inches......

I caught them on just plain old 6-8lb test, so I assume a 100lb flouro leader would be more than enough.....

I have lost 1 Muskie which would have been my fifth while using a worm harness............I got the fish up to the boat and the Muskie used my 8lb test as dental Floss

Fall is the perfect time for this.....

I tried the Jock river today for Ski's with no success.................was a waste of time, the fish weren't biting.......

Ottawa River is the best......I wonder if they have Muskie up near Maniwaki in the Gatineau or up near Mont Ste. Marie...........

Apparently the Rideau has the best catch rate for Muskies, but thats just something I read.....

I think the Ottawa and Mad are the best Muskie waters around........But the MAd is a long long river!!!!!

Plenty of Muskie in the entire length of it............Also some Brook Trout in the Madawaska up north......

I HAVE A FEELING YOU WILL CATCH A 70 INCH 80lb Muskie or something.......you have the MAGIC touch when it comes to fish man!

thats a first!

fishingishealing each time you right something you make me laught!!

your a funny man!

im no god just practicing advice people give me and putting in my personnal touch thats it!!!!

today i trolled 8 houres without a musky!

you say ill get a 80 LBS musky!

if i do ill be in the record book!

i sure do hope ill get that 50'' mark

and ill work hard at it.. but if i dont there always next year and THEN ill be 100% prepared!

This year I've been using 85lb fluro leaders (wanted to go bigger, but no one seems to carry it readily), so far I've got 7 muskies, only one beign under 40, and I have not lost a fish yet due to my leaders breaking; all be it I haven't been using fluro all the time, but at least half have come on the fluro leaders.

Basic rule, if you can cut it with scissors, a muskie can break through it...even 130 lbs + fluro can be cut through by a big skie if she gets 100% teeth on it. Fluro also helps when the fish roll, it's thicker so it doesnt dig into their sides (wrap some seven strand around your hand, it hurts more than fluro does)

As for the Ottawa, I say the Rideau takes the cake haha, never fished the Ottawa but theres no reason for me to leave the Rideau, this year I've got me: 34, 41, 42, 44, 47, 49,49 all on the rideau haha (first year muskie fishing too lol)

I use Western Filament Braided Dacron. 50lb on my casting rod and 80lb on my trolling rod. I lost a big Muskie and an expensive bait early in the season on 80lb Powerpro. It has strong pulling strength but is brittle and can snap if you get a quick and heavy hit. I was on a Muskie Charter at the time and the guide advised me to get that line off my reel as he had seen it happen too many times. No problems so far with the braided dacron and I have certainly put it to the test hooking into some sunken log booms while spped trolling.
It's a thick line too and is easier on the thumb and a lot less prone to bird nesting.

Good Luck on the Water all. The Muskies are active. I got 2 on Saturday.

For Trolling Thunder.

Bits and Baits in Stittsville has 3 foot 150 lb Fluorocarbon leaders for trolling. I have never heard of one failing and they are used by quite a few muskie addicts in the area.

I've use Piano wire leader...100lb. 80 pound Stealth Superbraid w/teflon. Casts well.

I think the Jim Saric from the tv show Musky hunte uses 130 lb test when using that invisible stuff.

Even an 80 pounder would have a tough time biting through that.

Incidently, on the ottawa I think the murky water allows for wire leader. If the fish rolls up in it though I suppose the flourocarbon is easier on the fishes body.

I plan on devoting Wednesday to the river...good luck to all.

On a related note, how big of a fluorocarbon leader would you use to keep pike from biting you off when fishing for bass? Would 24" of 20lbs Vanish do the job? I'm using 40lbs fluoro leaders now for pike and havn't gotten broken off, but it's too bulky to tie directly onto 8 or 12 lbs test.
