For those who were interested in trying to hook into a carp or two, there are huge schools of big carp at Black Rapids right around the walls of the rapids. Must have been at least 4 or 5 different schools of the consisting each of about 7-8 carp. Also saw lots of suckers surfacing the water there.
Might prove to be a fun battle.. couple fishermen were hookin them from atop the ledge, then having to make their way to the rocks to land them.

carp seem to be active all around us at the moment..good time to get out and hook one!

The ones I cleaned up last night were full of loose roe. The shallows will be moving with carp when the spawn is in full swing.

I saw a few small carp stuck in the lock at Blacks rapids today... bit of action from the walleye during the day. Lost a huge one and caught one about 17"

Rich, yes that was me, were you on the shore a little down the river? Did you hear me yell and scream when I lost that fish? it was like a mini episode of the Ozbournes. Did you have any luck out there?

Haha, definately heard you scream. I was on the ledge at the rapids watching two gents land monster carp. Didn't fish much, caught and released a ~2lb smallie right in the rapids.

better luck next time for me... great little spot to fish. I owuld like to go for carp one day this week in the morning. The weather sure was great yesterday, I fished there and a bunch of other shore spots all over Ottawa. What a great way to spend the day

Is Black Rapis considered the Jock River there or the Rideau?

I saw a guy caught a 40+ lbs Carp (yes, 40lbs) last week in Black Rapids. The Carp was released immediately without taking picture.

I always take stories like that with a pinch of salt... if you're not used to seeing fish of that size they sometimes turn out to be a lot smaller... As i've said to everyone that's been out with me... big can mean a lot to many different people.

Still it's nice to hear and i'd have to guess that something of that size is in there even thoguh they may appear far far less frequent than in other areas.

It's interesting they had time to weigh it but not to photograph it Anyways this isn't supposed to sound negative... A pat on the back to the guy that put her back.

For the record i was told that there are over 40 people on vacation fishing for carp on the st. lawrence right now... do the math 40 x $1500 a peice for one week... that's a lot of income for many hotels, stores, etc.. in our region...

John has a point, I cannot tell how many stories of 70 pound muskies I have heard while sitting on a bar stool or launching at the local marina. Without a measurement or a photo it is pretty hard to tell the actual weight of a fish

reading these messages i just thought I might share my carp story from this morning. Out in Manotick I was shore fishing for walleye with a worm and bobber letting it drift from deep water weedbeds up into shallow weeds. I was getting nothing then all of a sudden finallt my bobber goes down. Right away I new there was something a little different I first thought it was a good size pike until I saw it roll. It was a carp, my first ever carp. The problem was I was by myself with no net and I couldn't put my rod down to grab it in fear he might take off and bring my rod with it....there was no way it was going to let me grab it with one hand so I was left to keeping the rod in one hand and reaching to unhook him with the other. I couldn't believe the strength or girth of the thing, blew my mind. If I had to make an attempt at guesing what size it was to me it looked like 25lbs so realistically it was probably 15-16+. Its hard to estimate but it was one huge fish and a lot of fun to catch.
