A day out with Musky Matt

Well the moon and the planets finally aligned and I was able to finally claim my prize from the Big Jim raffle, a day on the water with Musky Matt.

Met up with Matt bright and early Sunday morning and we headed to one of Matt's favourite top secret spots which is only known to a few thousand fishermen.

To our credit, we were one of the first boats on the water but that didn't last long.

Expectations were high for a multi fish day but we all know how that goes.

Anyways, Matt really knows his stuff and was confident that we would figure out what they wanted and finally he did. One of the reels started to go off and there were slow steady pulls of line off the reel so we knew we had a pretty good fish. It made a run at the boat and after a few good powerful head shakes Matt had him in the net. He looked allot bigger to me but when Matt got the tape on him he was 44 with a 19 inch girth. Not a huge fish but she was nice and fat and my best for this season so far.

It turned out to be our only fish for the day but I had an awesome time.
I just want to say Thanks once again Matt. It was a pleasure to have a chance to get out on the water and fish with you. I had a great time talking with you and learned allot.

You're a great host and teacher and willing to share your knowledge and expertise to us ( I won't say younger  ) newbies to the world of musky fishing.

So thanks once again Bud.

I hope I get the chance to fish with you again.

Fishboch/Paul

Oh yeah, here's a photo.

I swirled the background so the few boats that didn't see us won't know where we were.

Hey Geos,

Good meeting you and congrats on your fish too.

Yeah Matt, we did work hard for that one but that's one of the things I learned.

I would have given up and moved on and hit 10 different spots and probably caught nothing.

You knew they were there and would bite eventually.

Persistence and confidence pays off big time.

Always a blast tying into a nice chunky fish like that.

Look forward to doing it again.

Hi Bass_Hunter,

Thanks and good seeing you too.

Yeah, i debated about putting the suit on that morning but I am sure glad that I did. It was pretty nipply out there.

I picked one up last year and they are a little pricey but a few guys on here put it into perspective and it made sense to me.

As they said my life is worth more that the few hundred dollars I am going to spend on a suit.

Safety as far as going in the drink wasn't really an issue in a boat like Musky Matt's but in smaller boats like yours and mine I really recommend the suits.

Reaching over the side to unhook a big musky in a small tinny this time of year you never know what could happen.

I've been learning is best to have the proper tools and equipment for this game.

Take Care and Good Luck.
