Heater Size???

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Heater Size???

Post by 777BassMan »

Hi All
This is my first year going ice-fishing with a Portable Ice shelter. Just wondering what size the heater do I need? The size of my shelter is 70"x70" around 6 feet high inside. (3 people style) Eskimo Quick Fish III. I have a 3000 BTU Brinkmann catalytic heater. Is this bigger enough for -30degree? Or should I getting a Mr.Heater Portable buddy 4000& 9000 BTU model?

Thankyou

I think the size of your hut you would need.

Coleman Catalytic Camping Heater

$69.99

Product #76-2119-8 Canadian tire

Excellent heater

At -30 in a portable you're just going to have to accept a degree of chill, unless you have a well built, insulated shack - but the heater you have sounds fine. It will at least keep you on the ice but you won't be fishing in short sleeves that's for sure.

I have the Coleman and it definitely works too.

Try 2-- 20 year old blondes about 5'6 to 5'8--They should keep you quite warm while Ice Fishing

Wallboss you mean the 3800BTU standing up model. I think for $40 more the portable buddy is a better deal.

I have a mr.heater portable buddy. At -30 you need it set at high 9000btu to keep it tolerable in a two person portable hut.

I have the portable buddy and I wouldn't change it for nothing. I had the Coleman cay heater and returned it after one use.

yeah the buddy heater is great. the procat....i wouldn't even bother. i had one last year, before i got the buddy. doesn't get hot enough!!

i would recommend getting a bigger propane tank. as i was going through too many green bottles, so i bought an 8.8 lb tank. reffill it once, and then i'm set for couple outings, and it's cheaper.

Thanks for replies;

I just picked up a Potable Buddy at Princess Auto. I guess I'm all set for icefishing now.

Where do you get the 8.8lb tank? How much they are? Are they heavy? I don't have a snowmobile, I'm using a 45" plastic Sled to transport all my gears.
