Quinte Fishing Today

Hello everyone,

Just thought I would share how my day went down on Quinte today.

I fished the area (not really sure, but I think it may be Sherman's Point, where the Electric Cable crosses the bay, near Dew Drop In) from daylight until evening and managed to catch 14 Perch, but no Walleye, just couldn't coax them, not for a lack of trying though. I pretty much swiss-cheesed the area I fished and gave them a look at quite a few different presentations. The Perch were really loving the 3 " Sidewinder tipped with a minnow and trailing a stinger.

The Perch were nice and clean, no parasites on the gills like I have seen in Muskrat lake, but they were returned to the Q to strip someone else's minnows. (Probably mine on my next trip)

The ice is a little funny there, as there was a lot of slushy areas (4-5 inches of good ice, covered by about 4-6 inches of snow/ and or slush), but that wasn't stopping some of the locals from putting shacks out and riding ATV's around. If you are planning on going, just use some caution that's all, as I have heard that the ice can be iffy there at the best of times. Kind of reminds me of the Ottawa in a way....

I talked to one "local" gentleman on the way off the ice and he was at Huff's Road yesterday but with no luck, and had no luck at this spot today either. It didn't seem like too many out there were hauling them in, but I did hear a "Tabernac" from across the ice aways so who knows.

And as a last note, I would just like to say Thanks to the owners of the Dew Drop In, as they were helpful in giving me a little heads up as to where to get access to the ice and also to allow me to park on their property while I was out fishing. It made things a lot smoother as I haven't fished there very much so a little "local" knowledge was well received.

Sorry, don't mean to ramble, just trying to add as much as I can.

Good Fishing To All

I was at Quinte yesterday afternoon for a couple of hours. Ice was OK, a bit warm out (slush)... should harden up Saturday when we are back in the deep freeze!!

Re good spots - just look for the huts. A line of huts is usually a channel... a group of 10 is likely a decent spot, a single hut by itself is not a bad sign either...

Re Safe Ice - I heard that there is only 3" at the 49 bridge, but further west there was 2 trucks came across... 8" of ice.
