May24th St. Lawrence Carpin' with RJ

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

May24th St. Lawrence Carpin' with RJ

Post by SkeeterJohn »

Another day another trip this time out with RJ in the same spot as yesterday. It started out a rainy day but as RJ will back me up fishing in the rain is pretty comfortable under a big umbrella

[Go away Rain :?]

It wasn't too long before RJ took the first fish weighing in at 20lb 4oz.. What did i say about taking the first fish.. every time it's been the biggest one of the day    Time to start flipping coins for the privilage i think

[20lb 4oz]

After the rain stopped a few fish started moving and it wasn't long before the next one came to the net at 15lb.

[15lb]

While landing this fish the other rod started to get knocks and about 10 minutes later another fish was on it's way to the net this time a 14lb.. what's up they're getting smaller :? hmmmmm.

[14lb]

Still quite a few fish rolling and moving in the area but again not a fast and furious day... As we were packing up the right hand rod flew into action and i managed to get a nice fish that tipped the scales at 19lb.

Great company and another result with fish on the bank. I was expecting a few more fish as the weather seemed to be ideal but we'll settle for 4... not great numbers by a long shot but a pair of fish around the 20lb mark isn't bad for a few hours.

Good Stuff guys, looks like the chumming at the end of the day yesterday paid off... nice fish.

John said "the last thing to come out is the rods" looks like that got you one more fish...

Now RJ - you are a big fish guy, how did you find the carp runs?

A great day today.... :D ...I'm just starting to actually dry out...

Those umbrellas were awesome...and VERY useful!

After catching the first one, here I am asking John how much it would cost to get myself setup!...what a rush!...the power with one swoop of those tails is amazing... 8) Jazman, you know what I'm talkin bout.. :P

Thanks to John for being a great guide...John defintely knows his carp stuff....

I now owe him 2 trips out for muskies...

Well i have this week off so i'll be out there again tomorrow but giving it a break on wednessday to get ready for muskrat. I'm hoping Lucannus reads this as i know he was interested in getting out.

That search sure continues but we can't catch them at home

Big-o i doubt we'll see RJ changing his avitar... except for a bigger muskie perhaps   but he really did enjoy a day out even if it rained a fair bit in the morning.

Tomorrow is calling for a cloudy day which sounds perfect. Most of the fish movement came after the rain stopped so tomorrow could be another good one.

Well i know i don't mind taking anyone out anytime when it comes to fishing for carp. The initial costs of setting up for carp can be exspensive but they don't have to be.. setting yourself up for bass fishing can be exspensive too but again it doesn't have to be... It's all relative to how often you go and what the minimum requirements are to do it right.

Tackle is becoming easier to get all the time and i know of one or two places in the eastern ontario region that are starting to sell gear... I was talking to RJ today on what you'd really need to get setup... it's not too high in comparison to say setting yourself up to fish for any other speicies... The good side perhaps being you don't need to spend $10-20k on a boat :!:

As with all tackle buying mid range gear is usually the way to go... The baitrunner reels are probably the most significant purchase followed by the rod. Electronic indicators are a luxury... After a rod and reel a good net should be next on the list followed by sinkers, hooks etc....

Again though, i go out a lot and don't mind anyone tagging along... It's nice to see others appreciate the power and fun that can be had catching bigger fish... It's funny though a few weeks ago we were having a great time catching 8-12" crappie, next week we'll all hopefully be getting into some nice pike and walleye... once the summer gets into full swing i want to try my hand for bass, and finally in the fall those muskie start shouting awfully loud for some attention...

We really are spoiled for choice when it comes to quality fishing in this area and we should all try our hand for other species even if it is only until your main target species opens.. like bass or walleye.
