Help looking for pike/wallaye/bass ice fishing close to GTA

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Help looking for pike/wallaye/bass ice fishing close to GTA

Post by jc6 »

Hi all,

I went our to Lake Simcoe this weekend and had some fun ice fishing for the first time. We were only catching perch and spent most of the day without any hits , but would like to go somewhere where we can find pike, wallaye, bass, etc. Can anyone recommend a good place that is max 1.5 hours outside of the GTA with great ice fishing?? Any ice hut rental places as well?

Thanks guys...

Great site by the way!!!

You could always fish ''The Bog'' a.k.a Lake Scugog for all species listed above.

You can go to the Bay of Quinte for world class walleye and pike but ask the locals for safe ice conditions, ice conditions can vary

Four words:

Long Point. Inner Bay

There's lots of ice, shanty town and fish. Two hours from Downtown T.

QEW to 403 West (Hamilton)
HWY 24 South at Rest Acres Road Paris and follow the signs.

PM me if you need more directions.

Hey there, I used to live just outside Barrie. Lake Simcoe offers some world class ice fishing, but if you want to try something else.

You can, as previously suggested, try Lake Scugog just west of Peterborough, its a pretty shallow lake, but it has some good walleye fishing.

If you follow the 400 north from Barrie, you will hit Orillia, and Lake Couchiching. It is seperated from Lake Simcoe by a small channel, and has some spectacular fishing.

Also, just outside of Barrie, west of the 400 is Little Lake. It does not have the big name of Lake Simcoe, however, it has amazing fishing. You can try this lake also.
