Shipsy I think spinner baits would work for you....pike seem to gobble them up when I use them for bass  ...you can burn them across weed flats or slow roll them in the deeper water ...ethier way if there are pike there they will hit on them

Generally anything colourful, shiny and gawdy; retrieved erratically will catch pike. There are exceptions but that's a good place to start:
- spoons (Croc's, Five of Diamonds, Daredevils)
- spinners/spinner-baits (Mepps, especially the ones with a twist-tail or bucktail attached)
- cranks (any)
- twister tails (big)
- natural bait (large minnows)

This is by no means exhaustive, anything along those lines should work.

One more tip: watch your lure as you bring it in, pike are legendary for following and making a last grab as you pull it out of the water. If you see this, do a figure-8 right in front of his nose. But trust me, you'll forget all about this and one time as you absent-mindedly pick up your lure for another cast the water will explode at your feet as Mr Northern lunges and misses.

Don't forget a nice, big beetlespin rigged with a twister-tailed grub or soft-bodied shad -- and the Mepp's "Cyclops" spoon is another good choice. (Spoon will take you to the deeper pike, though; not for the shallows.)

Pike were hitting my Mepps "Thunder Bug" like you couldn't imagine on Sunday. It all depends on the amount of fishing done of shore where you're going. As long as it's shiny, spinny and makes some sort of noise should work fine. Spoons are great, but nothing works better than rigginr your line up with minnows, I've found that a minnow and a bobber and a little patience will catch just about any predatory fish in the area.

Husky Jerk!! 5 1/2" Gold or Clown.

The secret to Husky Jerk success is to crank, stop, crank and take advantage of the neutrally buoyant suspending action this lure is known for.

There are times when the suspending Husky Jerk is so effective, it can literally produce a fish on every single cast.

Especially for Pike on Muskrat for those of you heading up this weekend.

The first time this happened to me was last summer at the Ivy Lea Customs dock. Up to this point I had no clue that this might occur on occasion. The lure was coming out of the water for the next cast when the surface just exploded and a 3-3.5lb'er half flies out of the water....scared the BEEJEEZZUZ out of me!!
I now keep my eyes peeled for any "followers".

I have caught Pike on all the lures mentioned, the only one I've yet to try are minnows, my last 3 we're caught inside 20 minutes on a Suspending Rogue.

If you are fishing from shore, I suggest lures that you can control that their running depth like spinnerbaits, weedless johnson spoons, tipped with a plastic trailer, and jigs (I have been doing well for pike with fin-s rigged on a jig-heads over new weed beds for the last two years). By controlling the depth, you can let them sink after the cast and make them rise as you near shore.

Cranks and suspending lures are very costly when fishing from shore because when your lure is out there, over deeper water, the cranks haven't had the time to dive and when you get them near shore, in shallow water, they are at their maximum diving capabilities and will hang up all the time. A good crank from shore is a rattling-rap and such.

Speaking of the Grand though, I heard that the water is mucho high   .

Pike from shore

Post by Buzzer »

Nothing works better for me than a black spinnerbait tipped with a white Berkley 3-4 grub...

Got this piece of info off of this site and it works!

I fished area's loaded with Bass last summer and still would pull out a Pike with this setup.

I'd second that.. i like them for fish that follow close to the boat you can stop and twitch these baits and sometimes get that fish to bite before it bolts off.

I like spinner baits for pike. Either Fire Tiger or Black and Red.

husky jerks

Post by fish_man_dude »

In my experiences with stick baits, husky jerks in specific, i fish them hard and fast. Once ur bait hits the water start jerking as hard as you can, while reeling.....this will trigger three strikes....raction, territorial and hunger strikes. Plus with the speed you will be jerking you can cover water quickly and rule out any parts of water that arent holding fish.

On a hot day or in the middle of the day i will do the opposite....i will twitch hard with my wrist then pause for up to 30sec...then i'll do a row of 3- 5 simultaneous twitches and let it sit...when u ruusing huskies or other suspending sticks they wont move in the water column...DEADLY TECHNIQUE

I have a secret lure which is killer for Pike, I caught more than 100 pikes in the past three years with this lure. Plus the price of this lure is only $1.15 each. You can't go wrong to have a try.

PM me and I'll let you know where to buy. I don't want post it here just because I heard it's unfair to the sponsors of this website.

Hey I read that too but never heard of anyone actualy using a white grub on a black spinner.

I guess I am going to have to invest in some white grubs. What colour skirt do you have? I made some black spinners this year with blue skirts (great for bass) red skirts and combo black and red and combo white and red. Havent been seriously fishig this year yet so no reports available on the color combos and fishing success.
