Vintage Rod & Reel Valuations

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Vintage Rod & Reel Valuations

Post by gwright »

An individual came into the store recently looking for assistance in determining the value of some vintage reels they recently inherited.

Is there a website or another source we could use to help this individual?

The reels are at least 20 years old. While most have been used, they are in excellent condition. Most are in their original cases with original paperwork. Here is a sampling of the reels in question:

JW Young #17 Fly Reel
Hardy Perfect Fly Reel size 3 3/8"
Hardy LRH Lightweight
SE Bogdan #0 Salmon Fly Reel with extra spool
Shimano Bantom 200
Penn 716 Ultralight Spinning Reel (never used, judging from the paint finish its circa 1950's?)

In addition to the reels there are Hardy, Andy Barr, and Loomis Rods, along with numerous Salmon Flies.

If anyone has any information which can help this individual out please PM me directly at gwright@floatpaddleandfly.com

For the record the store has no financial interest in these items.

I would be interested in this information as well. I inherited numerous hardy fly rods and reels from the 1960's-1980's.

Check out these two forums. Both have classic reel sections.

great tread.

love antique fishing equipement.

but i do think its as to be like more then 40 year old to get some had value to it..20 years old isnot old anaught.

but saw people get a load off $$$ for some old mitchel 300 mint shape in the mint box.

in a minth box everything get mutch more value..reels or lures.

picture would be cool.

Antique Fishing STuff

I bet the Bogden and spool will draw at least $750.00(US)....

Hardy Perfect generally get $200-400(US).

Good Stuff - not junky fly fishing gear.

The Bogdan is worth at least $1500, not including the spare spool, and the Hardy perfect is probably worth $800 - 900 (my guess).

For collectible tackle (and especially lures) I suggest people might contact Andy Clements. Andy used to write for Ontario Fisherman back in the day when I did some freelance stuff for Darryl as well. He is one of the biggest (if not the biggest) collector of this stuff in Canada, AFAIK. Here is his e-addy:

andy@classicsports

I do not know if Andy is into the fly reels like Hardy etc, but if not, he will know who to ask. And I personally found him to be an honest, upright person to deal with.

HTH.
