End in sight!

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

nah!

Trout is a HUGE source of people's upset on here....just look at recent posts.

+ I don't think the majority of folks on here either really care about fishing for them. Bass and walleye is still KING.

Just looking forward to the 9th, just looking forward to the 9th.......want the bickering to stop.....only fishing......

I understand Matt,

But revealing trout honeyholes = Wrath of many.

If you want the headaches by giving out spots by all means go ahead. I see your point though people would have less cabin fever if they knew where to go. Maybe after this bout of the tropics this w/e people will be more cheerful!

Yeah so far people got great tips from the fishing *experts*; Dows lake, and Bruce Pit. To add to the list, may I suggest Kanata Lakes. The water level on these lakes is very high and it's windy so please either fish from shore or use a 16'+ boat.

To be more specific, there is a little pond at Kanata Lakes (right on Terry Fox drive). There is a no-fishing sign there. Just ignore it. It is there because the *experts* do not want you to catch the lunkers they catch there.

Good luck, and keep the good reports coming.

Man that felt good!

The humourous part in all of this is that these lakes are in map books and on-line. They belong to nobody (unless its a private lake).

Canmoore and I have made reference to Dalhousie Lake. Now we never said "where" they are other than at the bridge by the lodge....

Now the walleye are there at a certain time of day and that time frame changes by the week and the bite gets later and later daily.

Go into ANY baitstore and they'll be MORE than happy to send you off to a good lake and give you spots and tips if you ask.

I feel for "newbies" on here who have either 0 experience or are trying to get into the "game".

They are trying to "steal" spots or anything they just want to know a half decent place to wet a line and get a few nibbles.

So by telling them to head to somewhere there are no fish is a pretty A-hole thing to do.

Plenty of public knowledge spots you can give out without giving up "your" spots.

Most people are aware of all the major bodies of water around here and if they google them it'll tell them the species of that lake. This info is made public so that the industry doesn't DIE OFF!!!

If everyone was so guarded of their secrets we'd all still be fishing with Bamboo poles and works on a bent pin.....cause there would be no lures, rods, reels, line etc...because the *EXPERTS* would have kept it for themsleves.....

these are 3 great tools to finding lakes... 80% you need a quad to get to them.

http://atlas.nrcan.gc.ca/site/english/index.html Excellent map resource far better than google maps. has all the tiny lakes.

I think it was Almontefisher who pointed out that by simply "Googleing" he was able to find a private, stocked lake for sale!

Gotta love the Net....powerful tool.

And a buddy of mine who's an MNR officer told me that they want as many people to know about lakes as possible, they make it a point to publish. Reason being it increases revenues from fishing licenses....

Hence why their site is a plethora of info and not just regs!

+ another pal of mine who's an OPP officer also told me that they are told about alot of spots by people when they stop them for boat checks etc....which in turn some officers impart to other fisherman.

To me a guy lurking is less of a threat than a guy actually on the water with rods! So next time (or if you get stopped) I wouldn't be so quick to inform the MNR or the OPP of where I was getting any luck.......

Jamsers, I think you're right on. In my opinion it is not about all newbies are poachers, or careless enough to put more pressure on fishery. It is the fact that real fishermen tend to be nicer and willing to help. The so called experts are mostly in this for the money, they gain from this one way or another. And it serves them to create the illusion that there are secrets and you have to pay to get it. As someone mentioned earlier, the information is out there, and part of the fun of fishing is to go out and make discoveries.

I just think things got worse when people not only stop giving advice, but make jokes about others asking questions. Very arrogant in my opinion.

I agree!

It was like that Joe guy who got thrown off. Claiming Bogie lake was "HIS"....

Would be like me claiming Mississippi is "MINE"!

I have lived on that lake since 97. I am still learning new areas!

My buddy "OWNS" to lakes...and legally! They are his.
They are FULL of trout. You'd never get into them. Quad or not.

I do agree that some discretion is good and that spots should be researched and discusses via PM. Good on the people who are being kind.

But you also need to be careful who you tell. Some people here have been stung. But telling someone about Petrie or Long Island lock is no secret. Same as any lake that is accesible via a major road....
Like Ottawa, Mississippi, Rideau River etc....

Give them a spot where they'll get a few nibbles etc.

Its like people saying "want walleye! Go to Quinte!....Quinte is HUGE! WHERE????"

Or want salmon? Go to Lake Ontario! Um..you'll never explore every inch of that lake in you lifetime!

Giving the name of a body of water is fine. Giving GPS co-ords of someone's honeyholes is not. There is a big difference there!

+ Don't be so naive to think for a second the McGuinty Liberals stock lakes for the benefit of the species (cause they don't breed).....

All about ROI in revenues from licenses, provincial park fee's, camping fee's, PST gained on gear etc....

Nothing to do with the benefit of a fishery!
