L/F Rod Pole Advice

Post by NavanFisher »

Hello Everyone,

Time for another rod.

This time I'm looking for an all around rod for two things Trolling and casting. I would like to use these rods for Walleye, Pike and lake trout ?

I'm thinking something in the G.Loomis brand but open to other suggestions ?

Thanks
Tom

Personally I went with a St.Croix Premier 7' Medium spinning rod paired with a Shimano Symetre for my trolling/crank fishing for walleye and bass. This is the lowest end of the St.Croix line that isn't made in China. So, about a $230 setup. I plan on using fluorocarbon line with it for some added sensitivity due to the low stretch.

I am far from being a fishing pro though, but this combo made sense to me.

My trolling is pretty much shallow trolling or maybe running some deep divers. Nothing to do with Dipsy divers or downrigging. So, I don't know if it's suitable for that. I'd imagine you'd want a different rod for those methods.

I am sure cyou ould use it for deep trolling for lake trout if you go the route of the three way swivel with light# test line. I never did that myself though. For steel or lead core line, I have no clue.

Maybe it's worth considering buying 2 different setups instead of spending $300-$400 for a single rod?

Of course, you can't put a $500 reel on a $100 rod!!?!? That just doesn't seem right! So, what reel are you going to use for the setup?

I plan to use a few reels for different set-ups:

Shimano TEKOTA 300LC,Shimano Castaic and Symetre in the 2500

Already have a few rods for other stuff but now need one for trolling and casting.

The best advice..........

Go to one of our Fish-Hawk Retail Partners. Off the top of my head I know Paddletales sells Loomis. Ed also carries several other lines of quality rods.
