hey guys just wanted to hear thoughts on what you prefer spinning vs baitcast and why? if you could only have one rod what would it be spinning or baitcast?

All depends on the species targetted.
Pike, bass baitcasting main reason is if you have to pull them out of the weeds I find that the baitcasting setup is a tad tougher than a spinning setup.
walleyes, spinning because if I have to go finesse I would rather use a spinning.
Only one rod I would have to say my St.Croix spinning rod with my Okuma spinning reel. If I was going after eyes.
But ask a golfer if he could only use one club what would he use. He would tell you " You crazy??? I can't use just one club!!"
So Ditto

If I could only use one rod then the answer would be neither. I would use my fly rod.

Looking forward to finding out. I've never used a baitcast (dont know why) but just picked one up this week. I hear they're great (with some practice). Cant wait to test it out. Of course, not for OOS fish.

Wow... I have two answers...
If I had to recommend one for someone else, it would be spinning. Simply because it can do everything that a bait-cast can do.. some things poorly, but it can be done... Where as a single bait cast setup will never cast light-tackle and heavy simply by re-spooling with different line...
If it was for me, then bait cast all the way... I love the top-water action, pop-r, spook, and skum frogs are my thing.. and bait-cast excels at those...
And if Fly-Rod was in the list, I'd use it as my only setup.. but it wasn't... /sigh...

baitcaster for one reason.
in a day of fishing you will get x2 the numbers of cast's that if you using a spinning reel.
and i love bass and pike ..... and heavy cover.

yeah.
you know what i mean.
as soon as the lure is out of the water its right there back in takes half a second to recast with a baitcaster.
with a spinning reel you have to open your bail. then cast. that extra movement x 1000 cast = time.
some spinning reel have the quikfire i know.
im just saying your saving time and getting out more cast's with a baitcaster.
but if you get a birds nest that takes you half an houre to undo... then ..........................
