Walleye / Pike Fishing Gouin Reservoir

This is my first attempt at a post, and having enjoyed this site and in fact, taken advice on where to go to fish, I feel that it's high time I "paid my dues".

RobertGoulet and I had been planning a fishing trip for months. We had scoured fishhawk for advice and attended fishing shows for more ideas. In particular, McQ and jsdx's posts caught our "eyes" (forshadowing) as they raved about the Gouin Reservoir in Northern Quebec. After contacting McQ himself, we set a date and started planning.

Leaving Friday afternoon in high spirits, we made our way to Parent Quebec to "hole" up for the night. Fitting words, as we thought the city left much to be desired. However, after dining on poutine's and the local special "Big Mack", we set about to some much anticipated drinking. We thought we would end up one of three ways; going to bed early, getting into a fight with the locals, or having a blast. We ended up with the latter option as several of the locals took a shine to us, even inviting us back to their place for some late night guitar jamming and singing. I forget their names, but they really were quite friendly!

The next morning, hangover in tow, we set about to find the Nemio Lodge, owned and operated by Ron and Rose - a very friendly couple who have created a special place in the wilderness.

Once arriving, McQ took us around to show us the spots where we really wouldn't venture far from during our 3 day stay. McQ, as many of you know, is an ever thoughtful gentleman, who took it upon himself to do what he could to catch fish. I can't say enough good things about the guy!

The weather was very cold throughout our stay, and we were told that the bite was off. 99 Pike and Walleye later, we can't imagine what it's like when the bite is on!

Goulet was kicking my tail 10-1 on the first day, but as soon as I broke the ice with this little snotrocket, things started hitting!

We soon started nailing great fish! Note my happy dance - a mixture of relief, joy and a beer buzz!

These were typical nice sized fish that we caught.

All in all, I would HIGHLY recommend Nemio and the Gouin. Spectacular fishing, comfortable lodging, great food on the american plan (Rosie cooks fast, and very tasty). They really try to make your stay as awesome as possible.

Good times buddy...glad that we chose Nemio for our inaugural spring fish outing. Hopefully next year the weather co-operates a little bit more with us.

Have to say that you really picked your socks up after the Day 1 beat down you received. In the end you ended up a little shy of me but you walked away with the "big fish" honours after landing a couple of really nice northerns. And we can't forget the obligatory "one that got away" Ron and McQ said that there have already been 2- 30lb pike and a 28 pound pike taken out of there this year and I'd venture to say yours was in the same ballpark...massive!!

Gotta say it was an absolute blast and to anyone looking to head north for some great walleye action I too will vouch for Ron and Rosie's spot on the Nemio river. You will definitely not be disappointed.

Lastly, another shout out to my buddy McQ...thanks for all your help last week!

In the Picture with the "Happy Times" caption, it looks like the guy is about to spike that fish.

Reads like it was a fun time!

Good report guys. Hope you used up all the cold weather this week as Myself and six other retired sailors are heade up there 6 June for a week.

you may have met 3 of our guys there this week as John McCarthy, Mike Meunier and harry Brake were and still are there until tomorrow. Hope you out fished them.

I will ask you to confirm their lies about the size and numbers they caught when they try to tell them to me next week.
