Good Day,

I am going to fish in the Almonte area on a private lake however I would like to try a few larger lakes ? I was hoping to get the names of lakes and location of boat launches in the Almonte area I could try.

Thanks for your time,

Tom

Um,

Almonte itself only has part of the Mississippi River flowing through it from CP/Appleton.

Not really any Lakes per se.

The only lake I know in Almonte is just outside on the way to Clayton...We call it the Lagoon and it is stocked daily with brown trout

Seriously though try Clayton lake...there is a launch at Beatons campground...Also the Miss river in Pakenham has a launch...So does Appleton and right in Almonte is two launches...One at the fairgrounds ( do not know how good of shape it is in ) and at Bay Hill ( limited parking as they are building a new power generating station ) . I would stay away from the brown trout stocked lagoon though

When at the Delta Waterfowl Banquet, held at the Agricultural Hall, in Almonte, this past Saturday, I saw a boat being launch at that landing, so it must be operational.

I live in Almonte and launch all the time at the fairground and it is one of the better non-maintained launches that I've been to. It has decent grade so you don't have to back 30 feet into the river to get the boat off. First timers beware! Going up-river to Appleton, you'll find that there's shallow water all the way across the river about 100 feet from the launch, which continues for about 100 feet. Don't barrel up the river from the launch or you'll be shopping for a new prop! (at the very least!).

As far as launching in the bay goes, the launch is ok but you can only go down river about 1.5 - 2 km before hitting rapids. The water is unexpectedly shallow in the middle of the bay in front of the main falls. Check the fishing regs - this whole stretch of water is a fish sanctuary until the end of June and NO fishing for ANY species is allowed.

Best of all? Both launches are free.

Are you sure it is not open Lund 1440...I have been confused with this one for a while...Here is one section which I feel is that area:

Mississippi River - Pakenham Twp.,
between the falls in the Town of
Almonte and upstream side of bridge
on Lanark County Road 20.
Fish sanctuary - no fishing from
Mar. 1 - Fri. before 2nd Sat. in May.

And then there is this which I think is in Carleton Place:

Mississippi River - Drummond Twp.,
from 79.2 m (260 ft.) east to 240.8 m
(790 ft.) west of Main Street.
Fish sanctuary - closed all year.

Am I reading this wrong.

Now at the Bay Hill launch there is a sign posted by the Lanark County Fish club stating it is closed till end of June but do you follow a sign or the regs??

Not trying to say you are wrong just looking for clarification.

Thanks.

By the way there is a little channel near the far shore of the river from the fairgrounds that is about 6-12ft that you can follow up river toward Appleton

I believe that you're right Almontefisher...that's what the regs say and that sign as well. I've asked "townies" for clarification of this and the sign seems to be interpreted as the "bay area" (how far that extends, I don't know). I generalize and don't go into the bay and fish until July.

I also think that I'm just too fixated on the opening of bass season!

I take that channel...I just didn't want to give out info to the "lurkers" I've been reading about here on FH! (here I am, all of 2 posts and I've been lurking for probably 4 years or more).

Thanks for the clarification...or am I just more confused? :?
