4th annual Mr.J. Toothy Critter Derby, Sunday Sept 13, 2009

WHAT: Fishing from 7 am to 1 pm and registering your biggest pike and/or musky, rounded down to the closest ¼ inch and biggest fish wins, don’t forget to pinch the tail.

WHERE: Pick up you entry ticket from me at the RA Launch in Kars starting at 6:30 am, then fish wherever you want.

ENTRY FEE: $10 with 100% payout, 50% for biggest pike and 50% for biggest musky or 100% if no fish of one species is caught.

WHEN: Sunday September 13th 2009

RULES: This is a fun derby and anyone caught taking this too seriously must buy the first 2 rounds of drinks at the banquet afterwards. Practice catch and release. A witness and a photo of your registered fish is a must.

WHY: Because it’s fishing you silly person and your wife/girlfriend doesn’t go fishing with you and because you’ve been to one of these before and you actually enjoyed yourself.

FESTIVITIES: Broadways in BarrHaven 3777 Strandherd Drive starting at 1:30 pm.

I'll be selling the ballots at the RA launch. I'll be there for 6:30 am and we start fishing at 7 am. If you miss me at the launch then you can come and find me on the water. I have a Legend 18Xcalibur with a Mercury 115 on back. Everyone was able to find me last year so don't fret over it.

I'll be first off of the water so that I can be at Broadways first for everyone to show up at 1:30 pm.

You'll get 1 ticket for your pike and one for your musky. Everyone who shows up at Broadways gets a raffle ticket regardless if you got a fish or not. But for every fish you do catch you get an extra ticket. I have a couple of prizes lined up, more on this to follow. (Sponsors?)

Here’s the links to the previous derbies.

The reason I ask is because being the fish of 10,000 casts I'd much prefer more time to fish.....

I was at this even tlast year and 1 muskie was caught....1.

I had a blast, don't get me wrong..but 4:30 hrs is not enough time. Especially if you are not familiar with the water.

J, I support this and will fish it..but I am asking that the finish be extended to allow those unfamiliar with the Rideau more time to fish.

To Peppino:  It is J's backyard afterall!

Great work, Placide! 8)

In terms of time... I'm sure J has his reasons and I doubt any of them are to give him an advantage (even if he was the one that caught the 1 musky last year!). :o I know you guys are mostly kidding about things, and I agree that more time to fish would make this a little bit better for most folks, but there are lots of different responsibilties for people and J is a family man. Maybe he can renegotiate the time!

cheers,
tallpaul

As far as the "hours" go

It is within the spirit of the "FUN" derby

It is also within the formula that has made this become more popular each year

The derby is a social event and geared towards as many participants as possible, including family men and women who may find it difficult to get out for an entire day.

I enjoy the feedback and have gotten many great ideas from others but I have to believe if it isn't broken don't fix it so I have kept it 100% the same each and every year.

James

I didn't take it as a complaint but as a good suggestion and I appreciate the feedback.
