I know that here in ontario you can basically camp on crown land anywhere. Is this also true for quebec?

the reason i am asking is that on a lake that i fish every summer in northern quebec there is all kinds of good looking campsites.

There is also public boat ramps on this lake.

this is not in one of the ZEC's just a lake north of senneterre, quebec.

Are there permits that i require to camp here? is it even allowed?

Hey Joe, the camping scene in Quebec seems to be very highly organized. I searched all my sources for info on public land camping rules & regs and got a big zero everywhere. I used to camp but always in SEPAQ areas and the only exception was a canoe trip on the Rupert system where there were recommended sites.

My suggestion would be to call or email the town in the general area and try to find out if there is an opportunity on their local waters.

Hey Joe, having been in that area before, my only caution would be (or so it seems to me) that any 'outfitter' seems to have exclusive rights to the bodies of water they are servicing. Or maybe, it is just that they have the only launch access to the bodies water.

Either way, good luck. Great walleye and pike up there. (Lac Parent perhaps?)

MT yes it is parent lake that i fish every year at least once. there is two public boat launches that i know of. Since you know the area you should be familiar with the types of beautiful sand beaches that can be found on many of the lakes in the area.

Perfect for camping, fishing, and suntanning for the wife.

I have confirmed that most of the land is crown but i still have to find out if camping is permitted, especially for someone from out of province.

Actually, that is very good news.

Each year a bunch of guys do a trip up to northern QC. This year, we opted to stay a little closer to home as I did not want to drag my new boat down any logging roads. Turns out the spot we picked had an 80K off road drive (I was crying all the way).

Parent was our original destination as I understand it is paved road right up the launch. How is the fishing? I had a hunch that since it was in Senneterre's back yard that is would see a lot more activity than the remote lakes.

Not that you should do what I do...
I live in Gatineau, and do several week-end trips to various lakes here in Quebec. All involve camping on Crown land and the only thing I know is one: if it is private it will be posted, and two: do not change the camp site area in anyway, meaning cutting trees for the campfire! If you respect the area you are camping in you will have no problems. Camping on crown land in Quebec is a big thing and tons of fisherman and nonfisherman alike do it all the time. Last year I even had a visit from a game warden to my little island hide-away, he checked my license, checked out my campsite, my dogs, wished me well, and headed off. If an outfitter has the property leased, there should be contact information posted with there outfitting number. Call them or pay them a visit, if the land is tied up for hunting they are usually more than happy to let you cast a line for a few days, and it never hurts to ask:D
