Well I just left my 7ft 2 piece ugly stick behind at a river, and its gone. Doh.

So now I am going to get a new rod and was wondering - are there any fairly decent rods that fold down small enough to fit in a rucksack? Under about 50-60 bucks?

I would mainly use it for worming and surface frogs

Personally I've never been a fan of colapsable/telescoping rods, rather I'd go with a multi-sectional pack rod. They are more expensive, but better in my opion.

Try Shimano AX STC or Shimano BeastMaster STC rods

The first one is a lightweight telescopic, with beautiful action thru the blank, while the second one is a multi segment rod, a bit heavier but tough as nails.

I think the dreaded fishing & hunting store on Merivale @ Clyde carries these, but last time I’ve been there weren’t too many of these.

I think I have some left at Paddletales. Not in the price range you are looking for though.

I have a Beast Master STC, picked it up on sale for $69 at Lebaron earlier in the year. Watch the sales. Great rod and you can use it at two different lengths.

I concur with Joey. Beast master is hard to beat if you want packability with quality instead of the old 10 buck telescoping ones. I took the beastmaster to Barbados this spring and had some real doozies of snags on jagged rocks with the power pro. Reefed on it like crazy until I finally had to cut the line. Rod is solid. Probably not the most sensitive rod you could by though.

If you liked your Ugly Stick, they make some 4 piece pack rods as well for the same price as any other Ugly Stick spinning rod . . .

ive heard the shimano ones arnt to bad but ive never used one myself, if it good enough for dave merser, its good enough for me( guess the whole sponsorship thing is working)

Well, I highly recommend the Silstar 6'6" medium action telescopic fiberglass rod and Compac Hornet III and reel.

Purchased them at Canadian Tire in Pembroke 30 years ago - probably for about $20. They likely are not made anymore. However, it is still going strong after travelling stuffed inside my sleeping bag as I travelled with the Canadian Army across Canada, the US, Europe and Australia.

Proof positive that it is still going strong - I recently landed 8 sockeye salmon, the largest over 7 lbs:

My primary recommendation - get something that looks and feels solid and that will not break or fall apart easily.
