here is a picture of my fishing companion who sometimes accompanies me at times in my boat!! When I catch something, he has to smell it and make sure it is legal sized :D

Should see the looks we get...If we are on Mississipp, we kind of stick out!!! "Scooby doo where are you". \p.s my name is not "shaggy" even though I like eating!!

Wow! When i saw this topic I thought I was going to see a smaller dog, maybe even a Lab at the biggest, but not a Great Dane (I guess I should have got the hint with the topic of Danish Fisherdog  )!

He must be a good pooch to stay still in the boat. I bet he's real cuddly, I love Great Danes

Yes, he is a good boy and lies down in the boat when we are moving from place to place. His lifejacket was bought from a specialty store in Montreal..we tried petsmart etc, but the jackets said XL but they were too small!!(He weights 155 lbs). Danes are not the greatest swimmers but it certainly helps support him when I let him loose on the beach. the back of the lifejacket has a handle on it so that we could grab on to. As for jumping out of the boat...I don't think so!!. Should see me trying to get him INTO the boat from shore (Lift front paws in first then his rear end!!-he does help a little) As for being a suck..you got it..mr emotional and likes to be around me all the time. I have had several other breads such as english cockers and golden labs(another beautiful animal), but danes are now my favourite. Plus the fact that their grooming is easier!! But man can they chow down 8-10 cups per day (split twice a day) Was thinking about calling him "Jethro"!! :!:

Devy,

I remember when I started the thread up about canine (or other pet) fishing companions. You mentioned your pony-sized pal but didn't have a pic to post at the time. I'm glad you did. You have our "Zeke" beat, as he was huge at 112 lbs. (Unfortunately, Zeke is losing weight in his extreme old age and is not doing so well. He had a great time at Wolfe Lake last week, and I'm glad he had the chance to get in the lake and out on the boat again. Geriatrics aside, he still gets excited about the water.)

Thanks for posting the pic; it gave me & the kids a smile. :D

PS -

Marmaduke jokes aside, he is a handsome dog. I don't think I've seen a Dane in that color. Most I see are harlequin or brindles.

He's a "blue" dane..almost a steel blue=grey colour. Yes, not as common a colour but I have seen a few in the Ottawa/Gatineau area!!

excellent dogs.

I have one and she is fawn coloured, 6 yrs old, super smart animal with dedication that no other animal could match in my opinion.
