I tried all summer on different bodies of water to land some large pike, now I know big pike usually don't like warm water, althought I did manage a 9.5 lber in about 4 feet of water. I guess my question is when are pike too big for warm water and what do I need to do to pull them out of the deeper cooler water during the warm summer months? I'm talking about when the water temp is in the high 60's low 70's range.

I think you need to be looking for deep weed beds.

with a good dept finder .

you will see these beds .

work the edges.

pike are territorial, Find an erea were they hang out and fish it till ya drop.

i find that in the early AM the bigger pikes are out and looking for a meal.

then when the sun rises they will hit the think cover.

Hot water and SUmmer is a killer for pike tho.

depending on were your fishing.

The lakes in my neck of the woods die right to nothing during the summer days.

but when fall and srping comes WATCH OUT!

Occasionally, big pikes are caught by Musky hunters trolling in 20-30 fow. You could try some deep diving crankbaits such as red and white jointed 10'' Believers

Good observation and advice from Peppino. Muskie anglers often run into large pike while trolling during the summer and fall months - especially here in the Thousand Islands.

In mid-August, I caught and released a 42 incher while trolling about 14 feet down in 35 fow with a 9" black/purple Cisco Kid. Thought I had a muskie on until I was finally able to see the fish.

A friend did the same in early September with an even larger pike trolling a 10" Jake in perch under similar circumstances.

At that time of year, it seems that the larger pike are prowling down somewhere between 15 - 25 ft. I'd be inclined to take Peppino's advice
and try trolling an 8" or 10" Believer at those depths.

That 42" inch pike is an incredible catch. My brother caught a 44"er two years back and it blows my mind.

I've caught a lot of 8 - 12 pounders (huge for the pike lake I fish in) on a silver scaled walley diver with red eyes in 15 - 20 FOW. Also caught lots on a black/silver fat rap on a drop rig in 20 - 30 FOW.

The believer sounds like a good idea though. Gotta try that.
