Sunday report - Petrie & surrounding area

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Sunday report - Petrie & surrounding area

Post by CDF »

Hi all,

At the launch at 6am...fished till about 1:30. Targeting pike. Did a cold front set in last night?? Because, I caught nothing, niente, nada, nil, zilch, zero.

Weather wise...from 6 to about 11 was great. Wind picked up then she turned a bit rough.

Great day, but would have been greater with a few fish...I guess the Ottawa can be like that.

Next time,

I fished the same area with Mick yesterday evening and you talk about windy? I was glad for my boat quite frankly - no trouble to it.

Me and Mick caught nothing in front of emerging grass on the main channel - we were tossing baits looking for toothy critters and took shelter in a muddy channel where we got into some catfish using carp dough.

Just before coming in we drifted with the Fish-Hawk Drift Bucket over the mid-river shallow spots just downstream from the little island you nearly bump into on the way out in the morning. I wish the tree was still on it.

We caught a walleye and a sauger and a crappie.

What a windy day.

Anyone ever launch and fish with a canoe from the island?

I'd like to give it a shot but would also like some guidance, maybe we can buddie up one morning.

I bet I could talk Kingmann into it too. We both have canoes with trolloing motors on them and can target those pesky pike who like to hide in the tall weeds.

Canoe at Petrie

Great spot for canoe fishing but just make sure it isn't a windy day and try to avoid the heavy current areas.... very strong river the Ottawa and will work a battery dead in no time.... try working the back channels and bays... hope that big muskie doesn't toe you out to deep water too. Hang on tight.
