Ottawa River June 19

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Ottawa River June 19

Post by Mac »

Thanks for all the directions to OPP guys, only problem the wind was so strong I had to hide in every cove and river mouth I could find. Never did get to OPP, but got close! Fishing was good, being out was great. Landed 7 pike, one musky, and hooked a surprisingly large lm that was gone before I new he was hooked (must set hook, must set hook) !
I'm off for a three week vacation in N.B. and P.E.I ,next week for some Salmon and Brook trout, hope everyone has great luck in July!
Cheers

Hi Mac, have fun fishing. I've been there once and the fishing was awsome. Hope it's as good for you.

Bowzog and I tried a few shore fishing spots on the Ottawa on Saturday and Sunday. I'm calling this our rock-climbing weekend, as we did more climbing over rocks and caught practically no fish. The only thing worse than climbing over rocks is climbing over rocks in gale-force winds carrying fishing stuff. :(

Some of the spots we tried - behind the NRC on Sussex Dr, between the Britannia Yacht Club and the water purification plant (not sure if I have that one right) and a few spots along the bike trail on the Ottawa River Parkway. When we couldn't catch anything there, we tried some of our tried and true spots on the Rideau - like Watson's Mill in Manotick, Black Rapids and under the Heron Rd bridge.

Results - one sick pike, a few small smallmouths and rockies and one small walleye. One small largemouth and bluegill below the mill (I'm told those are unusual there). One broken rod, two lost $8 and $10 lures and one close call with a duckling (I swear I didn't see them swimming there, it was dusk).

SP,

Some guys who ventured out in that wind yesterday probably wished they were fishing from shore...
