Bobberstop Variation

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Bobberstop Variation

Post by Karack »

For some reason I was getting an error while trying to reply to a post so I'll try to post this as it's own message

I use a variation of a bobber stop. Instead of using the ones that you buy I simply tie a small diameter elastic band around my line by first wrapping each end of the elastic band twice around the main line, I then tie the two end of the elastic band together with an overhand knot, and finally trim off the tag ends.

I like this because, it's cheap :) you can add or remove the stop without having to remove the rest of the terminal tackle and it doesn't hurt your main line in any way.

Karack, it must be Monday morning and I have not had enough coffee yet. You got a picture? I just can't seem to wrap my head around that, but it sounds ideal for taking out the kids.

MT,

You can basically see the rig setup on the package
Image

The slip bobber freely slides on your line & will sit right on top of your split shots when casting, while the bobberstop will have been reeled in onto your spool....when you cast out, your line will drop in the water until the bobber with the bead on top is stopped by the thread(in Karack's case, the rubberband replaces the thread & the bead). As long as the tied on rubber band, or the thread, are small enough to pass thru the smallest eyelet of your rod, you can use this setup in as deep a situation as you'd like, instead of having a fixed bobber on your line which you could only have set to a depth of maybe 5 or 6 feet at the most.

The slip bobber & bobberstop just make this rig castable & much more adjustable to deeper depths, as opposed to a fixed bobber which is a hassle to use & cast.

p.s. MT, the black plasic tube holding the knotted thread just allows you to slide the thread onto your line, but is then removed so you can tighten the knot on your line.....you can just buy the thread and beads yourself, & use cut up straws to tie your own onto....but elastics sound real easy & cheap too!!

The knot that I'm referring to is the 3rd from the bottom

Cheers for now!
