Hope this is OK to post, FH & Bobber, if not feel free to toss it out.

But...

just wanted to mention I had the opportunity to visit the new Bass Pro Shops store that opened up earlier this month. It's only a 35 minute ride from my home. Let me just say it is GIGANTIC, OVERWHELMING and FUN. It's easy to spend $$, even if you don't really need anything. The selections are mind-boggling. :shock:

The kids were floored by the huge aquarium, made to look very natural, full of enormous bass, assorted trout, catfish, crappies & other pannies, even some smaller muskie, pickeral and carp. There are incredible fish mounts, many of which (I think) are replicas, and gorgeous murals throughout the store.

They've got boats for sale lined up outside in the parking lot, as well.

I'm not into hunting, but there was an extensive section devoted to this as well. Throw in departments for toys, gifts, clothing, camping, outdoor grills, etc., etc. It's unbelievable.

From the St. Lawrence Bridge crossing (Alex Bay, NY) the ride would be a hair over 2 hrs, I believe. We heard one guy mention he had a 2-hr ride back home; he had toddlers with him, crazy dude. I'm not sure I would hike it that far, at least not this time of year, but it is truly something to see.

I'm going to the cabelaas in Harrisburg penn next week, can't wait to see it. It will be great when the Bass pro opens in Toronto this fall, it will be a 4 hour trip, hell it will be a pilgramige, we all be attracted there by some unknown force standing in the parking lot with our Visa in hand. Halleljuyah we are saved. At least till our better halves see the bill :oops:

When topwater and were on our way to Rochester this spring for Browns with King-Me...We saw the sign...the home of PBS ...I love to go...but it's kinda like going to a casino for me...scared I wouldn't Know when enough was enough :? I waiting for a call from King-me to go out for Browns for a day ...may have to stop on the way Home 8) :D

Just kidding. My wife actually want to open a Bass Pro Shop here in Ottawa. :shock: Know any investors? :lol:

I plan to make the trek down there one weekend....problem is whatever I spend there Kim plans to spend at the outlets at the Finger lakes... :roll: ...gonna be spensive!... :lol: :lol:

Made the trip to Cabelas a few times, hit The original in Sidney, NE , and twice to the one in Hamburg, PA . It's worth the drive!!!!!! No really it's worth the drive!! 6hrs Ottawa to the door, did I mention it's worth the drive! Don't spend a cent until you check the bargin cave, everything that is returned to Cabela's ends up in their bargin cave's can be as much as 80% off!

I'm a new guy here. Call me a party pooper but i've been to Bass Pro Shops main store in Springfield, it was many years ago. I was invited by Tracker Marine, I met Johnny Morris, had dinner with Larry Nixon and Rick Clunn, toured Big Cedar and fished with BP pros Charlie Campbell and Stacey King. Yes it was a little dazzling but after saying that, and being older and wiser regarding shiny things here's my spin.... I'd rather have a well stocked store locally that has a decent selection of old favourites and reliable tackle at good prices. Yes go see it, its worth it but don't forget the guy down the road or you may have to keep driving 10 hours to buy tackle.

The other night I was sorting through my bass tackle and came to an all too familiar conclusion. I had a great selection of the newest, hottest baits from years past gathering dust but not nearly enough of the old standby's and my local tackle store is a poorly stocked Canadian Tire.

I agree I was able to go to the BPS in Orlando a couple of years ago was one of the highlights of my trip but look is what I did , Bought a few items I hadn't seen before but was more than happy to come back home and make the major purchases I was pondering at my local tackle shop. In my opinion you can't put a price on service :D :D

Beleive it or not back in england i had to get most of my carp gear mail order so i know how much a hassle it can be not to have a good quality tackle store... Most of the gear was only available in larger stores or the ones located in the south.

While going to other major outlets can be good supporting local stores is also important. Just think how many lures you could by for a tank of gas or ups broker charges :roll: :roll:
