I thought I would start a thread that fellow Hawkers could up date regarding Shirley's. I walked out just a short way's from the NCC made access (Can't quit call it a launch - more of a pain in the butt) and there was at least 6"of solid ice.
By past experience, the ice 60 yards out will be the same thickness straight out for a way's.
That said - IF ANYONE VENTURES OUT, BE SAFE, CHECK THE ICE EVERY 20 YARDS etc. AND GO WITH A BUDDY ROPE AND PROBABLY EVEN SOME TYPE OF FLOATATION DEVICE. Bring all of the above and at worst you get some cold Nads!
I will probably be heading out this Sat or Sun and will post ice thickness.
Good luck be safe, Oh ya Merry Christmas to!!!!!

Went out for a sit on the bucket tonight - Didn't stay too long, pretty chilly to say the least. Managed to land 1 decent eye (15") before heading back to the heat and shelter of the car!!
We were out about 100 yards past the small brown ice hut (north east of the launch) and there was a solid 8"of ice. Buddy in the hut was out on his sled, hard season is on........
Good luck CCLad.
Windy day, but got the hut out

Got the hut out on Shirley's yesterday, tough going in the wind, but managed to get set up and fishing by mid day, caught a few perch, nothing big, but still nice to be out. the ice where I WAS, is 12 inches, we are about 1/2 Km out from the ramp, as always, please be careful on the ice, particularly early in the season

Hey PB,
We got ours set up yesterday as well. I thought I reecognized your hut on the walk out. Wwe didn't get set up to fish until 4:15 or so. Missed a few bites and ended up with two STINKY Lings for our efforts. Fished really late - 11:30PM.
It was good to just be out in the hut again. See you out on the ice ......

Hi CClad
Glad you got the hut out, we are in pretty close to shore right now, as it was tough going trying to drag it out with a sled.
AH, the good old ling, everytime I hook one, I think I am into a huge walleye at first,
How thick is the ice where you are?
Look forward to seeing you out there
Take Care

I am sitting on a solid 12" of ice wear my hut is, there has been a 4x4 out there a couple of times now. I can't get out because of the FREAKING NCC and their STUPID idea of putting those boulders in place restricting the access. If the access point was cleared I could easily drive out with my van, but due to their great idea the snow drifts are too deep at the shore to get out.
Was out yesterday 2 eye's and a small pike. &&& Yes Hate Ling - Fresh water Lobster they say!!!!!! They stink - Literally!!!

NOT a good idea..... a lad had the same idea yesterday here on the Ottawa and BURIED his F-150 4x4.....took 3 hours of digging and pushing and he lost an afternoon of fishing

I was told that some good Samaritan plowed the access point. If that's the case, as I said before you could drive a van out there. I'll probably be going out on Sun, I'll post an update. If you or someone else gets there first please let us know.
Thanks CCLad!
