Need assitance - Auger wont start!!

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Need assitance - Auger wont start!!

Post by CCLad »

I have a Jiffy auger that is less than a yr old that will not run. It worked a couple of times, then ran rough, now it won't start. I did the usual, changed the plug, gas etc.... still nothing.

Have anyone of you fellow hawker's had you jiffy /auger repaired here in town? If so can you please relay the number. (Preferably in the west end of the city) I realize that it's under warranty, but I don't like the idea of having to ship it away - (I just put up my hut yesterday  )

Hope the MLS guy already fixed it up for you, otherwise you can try following ,

1. get Deep Penetrating SeaFoam from NAPA auto store, OPTI-2 2 cycle oil from SOS at clyde, 2 litre fresh gas.

2. mix oil and OPTI-2 at 50:1 ratio, add 30 ml SeaFoam to the mix. Shake the mix for a few seconds as the OPTI2 is very sticky.

3. dump oil from your jiffy and replace with the mix in step2.

4. try to start your jiffy, even if it doesn't start still give it good pulling maybe 10-20 times.

5. try step 4 after a day or two if it didn't start the first time.

talking about rough start my jiffy was sitting in a shack with stale gas in it for 5 years before I took it. Now it starts loud at first pull. The tricky part is you need put good quality 2 cycle oil. SeaFoam will clean the CARB and oil system. So far the best oil you can find is either OPTI2 or Jiffy smoke less oil. And yes you can mix them at 40-50:1 , and they work far better than the 24:1 in your owner manual which is meant for inferior quality oil.

same problem!!

I have had the same problem before and all you need to do is adjust the mix screws on the side of the carb. If you take the drill out a lot you will need to adjust these every now an then. I either drag it in a sled or strapped to my 4wleer and all the bumping around makes the screws loose or move. you just need a small straight screw driver. If you use it a lot go over every nut and bolt at the start of the season they do loosen up a bit mine has over 2,500 km travel on it and it takes its toll on things.

did a bit more than that

:D Did a bit more than that, the problem was more a fuel quality issue than a mixture issue. Removed the carb, cleaned the carb check the diaphrams and needle height and then I made sure he had a clean plug good fuel and then adjusted the carb.
If your's keeps re-adjusting just from the ride I would get new springs or put more tension on them as they shouldn't need frequent adjustment if that is what you are saying.
Then I found out I am authorised to do Jiffys to.
