Can anyone recommend a good fishing map/reference guide?

Is this one good?

I have that book, it is quite good IMO.

For some of the larger lakes, I would recommend also buying a larger map specific to that particular lake.

Go to http://www.anglersatlas.com/ , register, then click on map search, enter the name of the lake and 9 time out of 10 you will have your fishing map to download (for free) for printing.

Cheers,

Bill

No no Andy,

Just be nice to have some clue of what to use other than a grub and a hook...

What lakes are you interested in and what spiecies of fish are you trying to target. If I can help. I will.

As the queen of splitshotting, my wife would think you've made the right choice with the grub & hook...just add split-shot.

I like trout, but I hear they are finnicky at the best of times..

Being limited to shore and evening fishing I guess bass and pike are about it for me....I do seem to catch a ton of perch though! and Red-eye's!

The thing is you can make things complicated if you want to but it doesn't have to be... It can be as simple as a hook worm and sinker! By the way a grub on a hook can be a deadly bait at times  not to mention it will catch almost anything that swims!
