Depends.

If you are staying at Nangor or Spotswood then yes.

If you are staying at the resort right in Westmeath (the name of the resort escapes me right now), then no. You will need to launch from either of the other places to get to Waltham.

Your original question asked about getting to Waltham, which is a 3-5 min boat ride from Nangor. You can't get to Pembroke without trailering around or using the boat lift service out of Chapeau. There is a set of rapids at Chapeau.

That said, unless you already have a bunch of hotspots around Pembroke, not sure why you would want to go to Pembroke instead of fishing all of the water that is accessible from Nangor.

I agree with joco.

Our family spent many years at Laurentian View Resort when the kids were smaller. That is a very good section of river to fish with a lot of different species to target.

That's not to say there isn't some great day trip oppertunities to be had either.

You can get from Westmeath to Waltham if you have a small boat via the channel that is nearest to the Quebec side. A few rock dings are to be expected :-) It is the one with the old wood lighthouse on the island. Right now water levels are very very low. The Westmeath boat launch also sort of sucks. Not much water at any time.

You can launch at Laurentian View (Spotswood) or Nangor. Laurentian View is directly across the river (2 minutes) from the Waltham dock. You can also trailer your boat from Westmeath to Lapasse where there is an excellent public launch ramp with free parking. It is 5km from Westmeath to trailer and a 15-20 minute scenic boat ride to Waltham upstream.

The whole stretch of river from Chapeau down past Laurentian View / Nangor opens up to about at least 35 to 40 miles of good water and excellent fishing right through to Campbells Bay Quebec. At Lapasse keep left of the islands or you will end up in the whitewater rafting stretch. Probably not survivable :-) The river is marked with Navigation bouys and if you have Navtronics maps they will show up on your GPS.

Great bass, walleye and pike plus a bunch of other stuff like whitefish and cats.

I am next door to Spotswood's and been fishing that area for more than 40 years. A set of paper Nav maps is helpful to pre-plan where you want to go. Up until about 10 years ago, they still ran logs down the river from Waltham to Davidson and if you can find an older set of maps they will indicate where the rock crib log-boom anchors used to be. Great spots for smallies.

Great area.

oldsalt, Welcome to the site, fanatastic, informative and helpful first post.
Looking forward to seeing some future reports from you, it seems like you might really know a few bodies of water well! :)
