Could Government actually ban public fishing rights??

I almost fell out of my chair today when I came across this news article:
http://sports.espn.go.com/outdoors/salt ... id=4975762. Currently, this bill is being considered to ban public fishing in US coastal, streams and Great Lakes fisheries and it links its momentum coming from recent bear hunt bans put in place in Ontario.

Here's an excerpt to get your interest: "The Obama administration will accept no more public input for a federal strategy that could prohibit U.S. citizens from fishing the nation's oceans, coastal areas, Great Lakes, and even inland waters".

Keep an eye out fellow anglers to a movement gaining strength in a lake, stream or coastal area near you!

tight lines forever,

This is no joke guys. You can read the interim report here

If this passes in the US you know it won't be long before our government looks at it here.

Crazy world we live in that this can actually be a serious consideration.

MPA's are a real threat, so try to get informed as an angler.

Shimano has some great information on in the advocacy section of their website.

Like we'd have the resources to police a no-fishing law! MNR is already understaffed and I think the police are well busy writing tickets and busting grow ops...

Like we had the resources to support a long gun registry either, the government has shown that they don't care what something costs.

It could not be enforced. Impossible. I would love to see the media shots and the public reaction of kids being locked up with their Parents for fishing.

Despite what PETA may wish, we are all omnivores.. we always will be.

The only way sport fishing could ever be stopped is through a long term villification of sport fishing targetting young children. That, or a destruction of the fisheries..

Well,

We have Harper and the good ol'boys in power at the moment.

But you can bet your butt if Bush (the redneck he is) and his hunting buddies (Cheney) were still in power, this would never have even got off the ground!
