Same experience here in my favorite crappie spot.
One 10" crappie and 2 fat walleyes ( 27" and 31")
Needless to say I moved on to different spot and caught nothing

They were biting on the Lower Rideau yesterday also. Was my first time ever targeting them and it took a while to find them but once we did it was really non stop action for a few hrs. My daughter caught a couple that were 13". We"ll be having a feed of them tonight.

Watching the black swarm of bluegills swim into a lock is like nothing I've seen before....pretty cool....

The Crappies aren't far behind.....sometimes under them...

It's great to hear their biting and that some sizeable ones are in the mix as well. Welcome spring!

The sunfish and bluegill "swarms" sound wild -- I've never seen or heard of this before now.

Anyone know how long the crappies stay in once they are in?

My understanding is...
First, (NOW) they follow the baitfish into the warmer water. Mixture of smaller males and bigger females - not spawning yet.
Later, towards end of April, even into May, the females return and spawn next to the cattails or grasses. Fewer are caught but, they tend to be big'uns.

Crappie spots on the Rideau littered with trash!!

As a contractor, I tend to have the liberty of escaping from time to time and getting a little bit of fishing in whenever possible. Locally, there are a few spots to go for spring Crappie that most people know about. This morning however I was disgusted to see the amount of trash left behind in one of the local areas. The spot was the small bridge just before route 22 going to Kemptville. I have never in my life been so disgusted to see how people have become so ignorant in caring about our local fishing industry that I picked up the following. Beer bottles and cans, coffee cups, water bottles, sanwiches in bags, mounds of fishing lines, empty lure packages, empty cigarette packs and a number of dead fish thrown in a pile into the water. How stupid and idiotic people can be? Has anyone ever seen what old fishing line does to birds when they get caught in it? Have these asses have no shame? It's a wonder some of the local residents don't complain and the Ministry shuts down that spot to fishing, all because of a few worthless titheads! Stop and pick up your f- ing trash people!! I filled 2, 5 gallon pails of crap! I wish I knew how to post a picture of this to prove it but unfortunately I don't.

I feel your pain ...
I tried to "educate" young family that they should not throw garbage out of the car while sitting and eating in the car at local boat ramp, blocking part of the ramp. "Daddy" (or possibly boyfriend) told me to F-OFF while kids in the back seat were cheering "brave" father

I don't know why people do this, because we have a great fishery here and are blessed to live where we do. I swear if I see people doing this I will call MNR, this is not only f-ing stupid, but it shows a lack of respect for all fishermen in general.
